ECMO Specialist - UMMC East Bank - 0.6 Night

Job Overview Fairview is hiring an ECMO Specialist to join our team at the University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank located in Minneapolis, MN. The ECMO Specialist is responsible for all aspects of ECMO and mechanical circulatory support, including assembling, priming, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting ECMO equipment and circuits throughout the duration of patient support. Working in close partnership with bedside nurses and internally credentialed ECMO providers, the ECMO Specialist ensures optimal oxygenation, perfusion, acid‑base balance, and hemodynamic stability in accordance with ordered parameters. This role requires expert‑level clinical judgment, strong technical skills, and the ability to anticipate and manage emergent situations while adhering to established policies and procedures. The ECMO Specialist also supports quality improvement initiatives by collecting and reviewing internal and external data to benchmark performance and promote best practices. Schedule 0.6 FTE (48 hours every two weeks). Every third weekend required, 12‑hour nights, 2 call shifts per 6‑week schedule. Shift differential incentives: $4.00/hr for nights $2.00/hr for weekends Responsibilities Provide Mechanical Circulatory and Extracorporeal Life Support to patients of all ages. Practice at the level of an expert practitioner in nursing or respiratory care. Assemble, monitor, and conduct assessment of all extracorporeal life support equipment, circuitry, and adjunct therapies used (e.g., ultrafiltration, continuous A‑V hemodialysis, etc.). Participate in the evaluation of new equipment and implementation of new technology. Mentor and participate in the training of new ECMO Specialists and ECMO‑trained nurses. Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team in the delivery of patient care. Communicate effectively with all health care team members. Provide excellent customer service by listening and understanding customer needs. Required Qualifications Education Nurse Track: Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN) OR Respiratory Therapist Track: Graduate from a CoARC or JCRTE approved program in Respiratory Therapy and a Bachelor’s Degree. Experience 3 years of critical care experience. License / Certification / Registration Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Nurse Track: Minnesota RN License OR Respiratory Therapist Track: Respiratory Therapist License issued by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice and Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Preferred Qualifications Experience 5 years of critical care experience. License / Certification / Registration Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification. Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time) University of Minnesota Masonic Children’s Hospital: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 1 year of hire. University of Minnesota Medical Center: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 1 year of hire.
