ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

An opportunity is available for an experienced ICU Registered Nurse in a fast-paced, high-volume unit. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, adaptability, and a team-oriented mindset to provide high-quality patient care.

Position Details

• Unit Type: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Experience Required: 2 years of recent ICU experience

Required Certifications

• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Patient Care Responsibilities

The ICU unit provides care for a variety of patients, including adults and pediatrics over 15 years old. Common diagnoses include:

• Neurosurgery
• Respiratory failure
• Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)
• Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS)
• Sepsis
• Stroke
• Cardiogenic shock
• Renal failure
• General surgery
• Psychiatric emergencies
• Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeds

Nurse Patient Ratios

• ICU: 1:1-2
• Progressive Care Unit (PCU): 1:4-5
• Medical-Surgical Units: 1:5-6

Equipment and Technical Responsibilities

Nurses are expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen devices. RN responsibilities include reading and interpreting cardiac telemetry using Draeger heart monitoring systems, as there are no dedicated telemetry technicians on staff.

Scheduling and Orientation

• Shifts: Day and night shifts available; specific scheduling will be managed based on unit needs.
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Two out of three major holidays or as needed based on unit requirements
• Floating Requirements: May float to all inpatient units excluding Maternity/NICU
• Orientation: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation will be conducted.
