Job Description Banks Insurance is a family-owned independent insurance agency proudly serving the Roanoke Valley for over 40 years. Our agency is built on relationships, responsiveness, and trust. We primarily represent Erie Insurance while also partnering with carriers such as Progressive Corporation and The Travelers Companies to best serve our clients’ needs. Our office is expanding and we are looking to hire the right individual to join our outstanding risk management team. We are currently seeking to fulfill a full‑time position. The Commercial Lines Agent will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to our current clients and new prospects, processing policy change requests, maintain knowledge of our products, and advise clients on risk management solutions tailored to their circumstances. Assist clients with claims reporting, carrier communications, billing questions, and other policy‑related service needs. Maintain a working knowledge of existing and new commercial insurance products, coverage options, carrier guidelines, and underwriting requirements. Proactively review client accounts prior to renewal to identify coverage needs, policy changes, potential gaps, and opportunities to improve the client’s insurance program. Prepare insurance applications, obtain underwriting information, and submit complete and accurate information to carriers. Develop insurance quotes, compare coverage and pricing options, prepare proposals, and present recommendations to prospective and existing clients. Explain policy coverages, limits, deductibles, exclusions, and available options in clear, practical terms based on the client’s business operations and insurance needs. Gather and verify prospect and client information, including business operations, property, vehicles, drivers, payroll, sales, loss history, and other underwriting information required for quoting. Enter, maintain, and update client, policy, activity, and documentation records in the agency management system. Follow up with clients, prospects, underwriters, and carrier representatives to obtain outstanding information and move service, renewal, and new‑business transactions toward completion. Identify appropriate cross‑selling and account‑rounding opportunities when additional coverage may better address a client’s exposures. Develop and close new‑business opportunities, including preparing quotes, making sales presentations, obtaining required documentation, and coordinating policy issuance and onboarding. Maintain accurate documentation of client communications, coverage decisions, policy changes, and other material account activity. Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing responsive, professional, and proactive service throughout the policy term. Requirements A Property & Casualty license is preferred but will train good individual. Possess a genuine willingness to learn, be intuitive and resourceful and be coachable. Possess an upbeat, positive and enthusiastic attitude. Proficiency with basic uses of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Google Sheets, and other related software Be a great self-starter with healthy sense of urgency. Strong Communication/Interpersonal skills. Must be able to manage multiple tasks effectively throughout the workday. Professional phone etiquette. Problem‑Solving Capabilities. Strong work ethic and leadership skills. Ability to tactfully handle stressful and difficult situations. Be equipped with great listening and closing skills. Experience with Agency Management Systems is a plus.
