Join our award-winning team, recognized as a 'Best College to Work for,' and be part of a vibrant culture that places a premium on collaboration and belonging.PurposeThe Custodian I performs custodial duties appropriate to classification throughout the College as necessary and assigned by the Manager of Custodial & Administrative Services and the Director of Buildings & Grounds.DutiesFacilitate cleanliness of assigned area including but not limited to: hallways, stairwells, lounges, classrooms, offices, tenant areas following the specifics of the duty assignment sheetFully complete daily checklist based on duty assignment sheetUnderstands and performs floor care techniques appropriate to stripping, sealing, and waxing tile and terrazzo flooring without direct supervisionDemonstrates ability to operate all floor care equipment (i.e. floor scrubber and buffer)Attend all scheduled training sessionsMaintain inventory of supplies issued to complete assigned jobs; keep closet clean and free from clutterMove furniture/equipment as necessaryAssist in building, renovation, and remodeling projects on campus as necessaryPerform other duties appropriate to position requirements as assigned by supervisionContribute to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements, exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the department; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed.Primary ContactsManager of Custodial & Administrative Services, Director of Buildings & Grounds and department staff; students, college faculty and staffSupervision ExercisedNoneSupervision ReceivedWorks under immediate supervision with work assignments reviewed at frequent intervals or at pre-determined times.QualificationsEducation: Some high school; ability to read and write and perform simple numerical tasksExperience: Six months relatedSpecialized Training: Floor careSkills, AttributesCustomer Service: Exhibit a "student/customer first" orientation in providing exceptional service in all responsibilities and interactions demonstrating versatility in handling people and situations; adapt willingly and quickly to changing priorities, responsibilities, and student needs and expectations; anticipate and identify student and other customer needsTeamwork: Collaborate well with others and help make Buildings & Grounds staff a cohesive group; communicate, cooperate and collaborate with others to achieve common office or College goals; Assists in various responsibilities as appropriate within the Buildings & Grounds area and Business/Finance Division as required during high service demand times including participating in mandatory overtime based on special events and college needsCommunication: Develop and nurture an effective, productive, and respectful rapport and working relationship with students, co-workers, and various campus and community constituencies maintaining an appropriate level of professionalism; communicate information clearly and concisely and listen well to others; must possess effective communication skillsAccuracy: Maintain a high level of accuracy, consistently reviewing work to detect errors, oversights, or omissionsInitiative: Accomplish tasks with follow through to completionTechnical: Floor care, furniture moving, and liftingBenefits Mount St. Joseph University offers a wide array of benefit options, to meet the financial, educational, health, and wellness needs of you and your family.
