Job Summary Plans, coordinates, directs and participates in the work of smaller research projects or major units of large research projects in the field of specialization for which the incumbent is particularly qualified. This position supports research efforts directed toward developing treatments for genetic pediatric disorders with significant unmet medical needs. The individual will conduct independent research and also contribute to multiple ongoing projects. Responsibilities include maintaining transgenic mouse colonies, performing routine colony management tasks such as genotyping, supporting experimental studies involving mouse models, performing molecular biology and cell‑based assays, plasmid cloning and preparation, and producing adeno‑associated virus (AAV) vectors. The candidate may also support experimental procedures related to in‑vivo studies. Prior experience with rodent handling and injections is strongly preferred. Experience with molecular biology techniques is highly desirable. Familiarity with gene therapy research, viral vector production or mammalian cell culture will be considered a strong asset. Experience and Education – Required Education: PhD, Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in the field of assignment. Experience: 5 years of research experience in the field of assignment with a PhD (including 2 years at the level of senior research associate or equivalent), or 7 years with a Master’s degree (including 3 years at the senior research associate level), or 9 years with a Bachelor’s degree (including 4 years at the senior research associate level). Job Duties Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and personally participates in assigned scientific or medical research projects. Selects or assists in selection of key research personnel. Determines specific goals or objectives to be attained. Assigns and reviews work of subordinates. Plans experimental protocols. Reviews and analyzes resulting research data. Revises techniques or approaches to work problems as necessary. Compiles, writes, and submits research results to supervisor. Prepares or assists in preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as a co‑author. Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results. Plans and supervises training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures. Supervises a group of employees of lower grade engaged in technical and professional work, ranging from routine to complex laboratory tasks. May confer with industrial, governmental, or other groups concerning progress or results of research projects. Performs other duties as assigned.
