Part Time Radiology Tech

Minimum Qualifications Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program. Must possess current or temporary Radiography License as required by state board where services will be provided: MD: Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians OH: Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health PA: No state licensure required WV: Radiography License or Temporary Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board Must be nationally certified as defined by location: MD: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire OH: Registered Radiography Technologist by the ARRT upon hire PA: Registered Radiography Technologist by the ARRT within six (6) months of graduation from a Medical Imaging program WV: Registered Radiography Technologist by the ARRT prior to expiration of WV temporary license Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable). Core Duties & Responsibilities Rotate in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics). Perform image procedures based on assessment of the status of the patient, request of the service, and imaging protocols; monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision. Produce images of optimal quality by using imaging equipment and systems in the provision of image delivery and archiving. Select exposure factors based on patient’s size, condition, and pathology resulting in optimal image quality, utilizing minimal radiation exposure. Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients and other staff by the use of shielding, collimation, application of the inverse square law, and minimizing repeat exposures. Maintain an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging in order to optimize the procedure and ensure patient care/safety. Assess patient’s needs and provide imaging related comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and support. Prepare contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays; which are utilized for the imaging procedure according to procedural guidelines and protocols. Educate patients regarding radiographic procedures by explaining the procedure and answering questions. Promote the team approach to providing Radiology services by positively interacting with the technical, support, nursing, and medical staff. Engage in problem solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements throughout the hospital to promote and support efficient, high quality, and cost effective patient care. Display imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies and Procedures, Radiology Department Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Regulation, and The Joint Commission guidelines. Report equipment failures immediately upon identification. Complete all in‑services and competencies by the required date and apply knowledge gained. Position patients accurately in accordance with established protocols. Participate in coordination of daily workflow. Provide minimal instruction of radiology students in the clinical setting with regard to patient positioning, technique selection, manipulation of equipment and the use of accessory devices to obtain Radiographic images; provide clinical supervision and instruction within the policies of the Radiology program and its accrediting bodies. Ensure that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety. Perform medical assisting duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Differentiation of shades of gray and color as depicted on a monitor or photograph. Stand and walk for prolonged periods. Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds. Carry items of up to 20 pounds. Working Environment Exposure to minimal radiation within national occupational guidelines, monitored by Radiation Safety and use of dosimeter. Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids. Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts. Skills & Abilities Interact positively with patients, families, and members of the Health Care Team. Prioritize and deal with a variety of situations simultaneously. Improvise with altered positioning techniques, manipulation of equipment, and accessory devices when routine positioning is compromised due to patient’s condition, age, or ability. Shift & Compensation Shift: Day (United States of America). Exempt/Non‑Exempt: Non‑Exempt. Working Hours: 4 hours weekly.
