Position Type: Middle School Teaching/ Foreign Language POSITION: Secondary (Spanish) Teacher FLSA STATUS: Exempt EMPLOYMENT TERM: Minimum 200 days annually, pursuant to WV Code§18-5-45; extended employment terms may be established by JCBOE SALARY: Pursuant to WV Code §18A-4-2, in accordance with Jefferson County Teacher Salary Schedule, commensurate with verified years of experience relevant to position and education level EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/immediate supervisor and in accordance with WV State Code §18A-2-12, WV State Board Policy 5310, and JCBOE Evaluation Policy JOB SUMMARY: Provides appropriate instruction, learning activities, and experiences that ensure all students meet the learning objectives and standards for the appropriate content and grade level. MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for planning and implementing WV content standards and high-quality secondary learning objectives, instructing students using effective instructional strategies and providing appropriate learning experiences, with high expectations for all. Responsible for implementing adopted and supplemental academic programs Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Participate as a contributing member of the relevant, assigned department or program. Keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports as assigned. Analyzes data to improve instruction and models instructional strategies which promote student achievement. Communicate with parents through a variety of means, including conferences, to discuss student progress and interpret academic program objectives and requirements Provide learning experiences designed to meet individual needs through individual and/or group instruction. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in and out of the classroom by providing a safe and secure environment. Maintains and monitors an effective learning environment free of hazard, ridicule and prejudice. Assists with student management throughout the building, grounds and/or other JCS facilities. Coordinates parent/teacher and student/teacher conferences to review student performance, behavior, and other issues. Performs various administrative duties such as taking attendance, organizing the classroom, and responding to emails and phone calls from parents, school administrators, and staff in a timely manner. Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, breaches of ethics, or any criminal activity of which the employee becomes aware. Effectively communicates with students, parents, and other stakeholders via verbal and written communication Be accountable for individual student achievement and provide grades in accordance with the school’s grading policy and procedures. May be responsible for planning and implementing designated co-curricular activities and/or programs at the school such as curricular fairs, awards programs, and field trips Provides strong working/communication skills with students, parents, peers, and the community Fosters a classroom climate conducive to learning. Meets professional responsibilities and maintains professional work habits adhering to the Employee Code of Conduct. Willing to implement and participate in programs and activities designated by the principal for school improvement Adhere to and, when appropriate, enforce School Board policies. Maintain a professional development plan according to district policies, and strive to improve professional competencies Includes supervisory and/or other duties as assigned by the Principal Performs other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Valid teaching certificate licensing the individual to teach in the specializations and grade levels of the assigned endorsement area, pursuant to WV Code §18A-3-2; Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10, as appropriate; Meet the qualifications outlined in WV Code §18A-3-2a. Understand how to manage stress and maintain emotional control. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff members. A successful work history and a minimum of three supervisory references required for consideration.
