Food Service Assistant (Part-time): Deerfield Beach, FL As a Food Service Assistant at Bezos Academy, you’ll help provide nutritious, compliant meals to children at our tuition‑free, Montessori‑inspired preschool and support a variety of classroom and administrative tasks. You will manage all aspects of food preparation and service with strong attention to detail, organization, and adherence to safety protocols. Key responsibilities include preparing CACFP‑compliant menus, placing food orders and managing food costs, verifying deliveries, ensuring timely delivery to classrooms, handling cleanup, organization, and documentation, and serving meals in accordance with USDA requirements, school policies, and local regulations. Beyond the kitchen, you will assist school staff with inventory checks, laundry, and other ad hoc duties. As needed, you may also provide brief classroom coverage and support to children. Work a 5‑hour shift Monday through Friday (25 hours per week). Hours may vary but generally run from 8:00 am–1:00 pm . Part‑time (non‑exempt hourly) position. Compensation range: $19–$28 per hour , with higher end typically reserved for experienced employees. Benefits include paid sick (care) time and a 401(k) plan with a 4% employer contribution match. Minimum Qualifications Age 18+, high school diploma or GED. Experience in an institutional or highly regulated kitchen. Ability to meet all credentialing requirements of the Florida Department of Children and Families, including background checks and health documentation. Prior teaching experience in a preschool setting. Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent coursework. Experience with Montessori pedagogy. Experience working with children with special needs. Fluency in Spanish (desirable). Responsibilities Food Service & Site Operations Place weekly food orders based on attendance and waste data. Verify daily deliveries, report discrepancies, and follow Emergency Food SOP. Ensure vendor performance meets expectations. Document menu changes and comply with regulations. Track consumption and waste to optimize costs. Prepare and serve meals and utensils to classrooms. Maintain strict hygiene, sanitation, and safety protocols. Clean, sanitize, and maintain kitchen, equipment, utensils, and dishes. Organize inventory with proper labeling, dating, rotation, and disposal of expired items. Record and log food temperatures before service. Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergens, and cultural or religious needs. Assist in serving meals at family or school events. Additional Responsibilities (On‑Site Food Preparation) Order groceries weekly based on menu and inventory. Verify deliveries and follow up on incorrect or spoiled items. Prepare meals per menu, adapting recipes for dietary restrictions. Schedule meals (breakfast/lunch/snack). Substitute menu items to avoid waste following SOP. Assist in planning nutritious, budget‑friendly menus. Additional Responsibilities (CACFP Schools) Maintain vendor delivery receipts for 3 years. Ensure proper portion sizes and communicate them to staff. Upload accurate meal counts to SharePoint weekly. Provide required documentation for menu substitutions. Attend required annual CACFP training. Clock in/out of Workday for food-related duties. Classroom Support Cover classes as needed. Assist teachers with implementation of school standards, policies, and procedures. Support everyday classroom operations (cleaning, meal prep, nap transitions). Organize materials and clean workspace to aid learning. Help children develop independence in daily living skills. Provide 1:1 support for children experiencing intense emotions. Build positive relationships with children. Other Duties Assist Head of School and staff with miscellaneous tasks (laundry, front desk support, etc.) when kitchen work is complete. Participate in team meetings, center activities, and staff development. Bezos Academy participates in E‑Verify.
