GCP Data Engineer

Location: Charlotte, NC; Iselin, NJ; San Francisco, CA, or Dallas, TX

Work Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

Duration: 12-month contract with strong potential for extension and/or conversion

Our client is seeking a skilled GCP Data Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of scalable data engineering solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role will focus on building modern data pipelines, reusable frameworks, and AI-enablement capabilities that support enterprise data initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong data engineering background, hands-on GCP experience, and expertise in developing scalable cloud-based solutions.

What you will be doing:

• Design, develop, and maintain data engineering pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Build reusable frameworks and components to support scalable data processing and integration.
• Develop and optimize batch and real-time data pipelines using GCP services.
• Manage and optimize BigQuery workloads, ensuring performance efficiency and cost effectiveness.
• Implement data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration solutions across enterprise data platforms.
• Collaborate with engineering and business teams to enable AI-driven development and analytics initiatives.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve productivity and delivery speed.
• Support CI/CD implementation and DevOps best practices for data engineering solutions.
• Contribute to cloud modernization efforts and scalable data architecture initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Strong background in data engineering with experience building and supporting data platforms and pipelines.
• Proficiency in Python for data engineering and automation.
• Hands-on experience with:
• Cloud Composer
• BigQuery
• Pub/Sub
• Dataflow
• Cloud Functions
• Workflows
• Strong expertise in BigQuery workload management, performance tuning, and cost optimization.
• Experience designing scalable and reusable data engineering frameworks.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools such as GitHub Actions.
• Strong understanding of enterprise cloud environments and modern data architecture patterns.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Hadoop or related big data ecosystems.
• Exposure to AI-enabled development practices and tools.
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of cloud-native data processing and orchestration frameworks.
