Temporary Maintenance Laborer
The Kuskokwim Corporation is hiring a Temporary Maintenance Laborer. This person will work 7 hours a day, from June 9th through July 10th in Aniak, AK. The Maintenance Laborer is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of TKC-owned buildings, leased spaces, equipment, and grounds. This position supports daily operations by responding to work orders, completing preventative maintenance, assisting with facility inspections, and ensuring safe, clean, and functional buildings for TKC staff, shareholders, tenants, and visitors. The laborer works closely with the Maintenance Foreman and Building Maintenance Technician, and contributes to the overall safety, reliability, and efficiency of TKC facilities.
Key Responsibilities
General Facility Maintenance
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting for electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating, and mechanical systems.
- Assist with installation, maintenance, and repair of appliances, lighting, fixtures, and equipment.
- Monitor furnace operations, heating fuel levels, and ventilation systemsespecially during freeze-up and cold-weather months.
- Conduct snow removal, sanding, and general groundskeeping during winter months.
- Assist in maintenance of employee housing units, including repairs and cleaning tasks after guest check-outs.
Work Order Response & Troubleshooting
- Respond promptly and professionally to internal and tenant maintenance requests.
- Diagnose issues, identify required materials, and complete repairs efficiently.
- Escalate complex or safety-sensitive issues to the Maintenance Foreman as needed.
Preventative Maintenance
- Perform scheduled inspections of TKC buildings, systems, and equipment.
- Assist with preventative maintenance programs for HVAC systems, generators, electrical panels, and plumbing components.
- Maintain logs of completed maintenance work, inspections, and repairs.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow TKC safety policies, building codes, and OSHA standards at all times.
- Use proper PPE and help identify hazards or unsafe conditions.
- Assist with emergency response efforts, including power outages, freeze-ups, leaks, and system failures.
Equipment & Supplies
- Properly operate and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment such as snow machines, ATVs, lawn/yard equipment, generators, and power tools.
- Help track and maintain inventory of parts, materials, and supplies.
- Report damaged or unsafe tools/equipment to the Maintenance Foreman.
Customer Service & Communication
- Interact respectfully and professionally with TKC staff, shareholders, tenants, contractors, and community partners.
- Communicate clearly about repair timelines, maintenance impacts, and project updates.
- Maintain confidentiality in sensitive work areas and leased tenant offices.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience in building maintenance, construction, HVAC, electrical, or plumbing preferred.
- Experience working in rural Alaska environments is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Skilled in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or mechanical repair.
- Able to safely use hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong communication and customer service abilities.
- Able to lift 50+ lbs and perform labor in varying weather conditions.
Other Requirements
- Valid Alaska driver's license preferred.
- Must be able to travel between TKC properties within Aniak.
- Must pass pre-employment background check and/or drug screening if required by TKC.
- Ability to work after-hours or on-call for emergency maintenance needs.
Work Environment
Work is performed indoors and outdoors, often requiring physical labor, lifting, bending, and use of tools and machinery. The technician may be exposed to noise, dust, fuel, chemicals, and extreme weather conditions common in the Middle Kuskokwim region.
