GPC Solar / BESS / DERs - I&C Technician – South Region Position Overview The purpose of this position is to provide O&M support for GPC R2Gen - Solar / BESS / DERs facilities in the Western area of the South Georgia Region (Ft. Benning [Ft Mitchell, AL] & Shiloh, GA). The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of utility‑scale PV solar plants, distributive energy resources, and battery energy storage facilities across Georgia. Duties include monitoring and operating the assets through SCADA, as well as inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of AC and DC systems. Equipment examples include inverters, PV modules, combiner boxes, battery energy storage systems, SCADA systems, plant controllers, metering systems, transformers, switchgear, and RICE generators. The candidate will work routinely with 600‑1500 V DC systems and will need to be familiar with medium‑voltage AC systems up to 34.5 kV. All technicians in this role must facilitate and execute LOTO using Generation SafeTK and use IBM Maximo for planning, executing, documenting, and tracking work and plant equipment issues. Typical work schedules for this position include 5/8s or 4/10s, with flexibility to meet business needs. The position requires availability for night, weekend, holiday work and on‑call duty, including storm duty as necessary. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of industrial or power plant facility operations and maintenance Knowledge of electrical and mechanical safety Understanding of industrial safety practices such as LOTO, switching, maintenance processes, and basic industrial compliance obligations Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematics and prints Proficiency with DC systems and equipment Fundamental understanding of medium & high voltage AC systems and equipment up to 34.5 kV Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects Self‑directed, responsible, and accountable Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities Physical fitness for demanding tasks Responsibilities Travel to and from site locations around the region or state as needed (or may be assigned to one site) Assist with planning, coordinating, and scheduling site maintenance activities and projects Execute site operations and maintenance activities and projects Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment Facilitate and execute site compliance (Environmental, Health, and Safety) Facilitate and execute site contractor compliance Administer, facilitate, and execute site LOTO Use Maximo for PMs, CMs, CDs, inventory, PRs, POs, and record keeping Participate in team meetings (Morning, Planning, Safety, etc.) Complete all assigned training Effectively communicate with the Team Leader and Team Members Position Requirements and Preferences Required: Live in or near the West Georgia region within one hour drive of Fort Benning and Shiloh Required: EEI TECH test qualified Required: Approved two‑year technical degree from a certified technical institution or military equivalent Required: Availability for extended work hours, including nights, weekends, and on‑call duty Required: Flexibility and strategic mindset Required: Self‑motivated, customer‑focused, capable of working alone or in a team Required: Effective team player with a positive attitude towards work Preferred: Work experience in solar or BESS plant maintenance and operations Preferred: Working knowledge of Maximo Preferred: Working knowledge of SafeTK Preferred: Contractor compliance experience Preferred: Knowledge of medium and low voltage distribution systems Equal Opportunity Employer Statement Southern Company is an equal opportunity employer where an applicant’s qualifications are considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other basis prohibited by law. #J-18808-Ljbffr
