Tactical Buyer / Procurement Specialist

Position Summary

We are seeking a Tactical Buyer / Procurement Specialist to support day-to-day procurement, supplier management, sourcing, and operational excellence activities. This role is responsible for independently managing a portfolio of tactical, non-critical suppliers , while partnering closely with Sourcing Leads on more complex or critical supplier activities.

The ideal candidate is a proactive procurement professional who understands the requisition-to-pay process, supplier relationships, contracts, sourcing activities, invoicing, cost analysis, and supplier performance . This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of supplier relationships while contributing to New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement

• Proactively manage the requisition-to-pay process , including identifying and resolving exceptions.
• Maintain accurate supplier and procurement master data.
• Support process standardization and ensure procurement activities are completed efficiently and accurately.
• Review supplier invoices, investigate discrepancies, and identify appropriate resolutions.

Supplier Management

• Independently manage assigned tactical, non-critical suppliers and maintain strong operational and tactical relationships.
• Monitor supplier status, performance, and short-term results.
• Support critical supplier activities under the guidance of Sourcing Leads.
• Transition commodities from single-sourcing toward appropriate single- and dual-sourcing strategies .
• Partner with Sourcing Leads to manage supplier activities related to New Product Introduction (NPI) .

Contract Management

• Initiate and negotiate single-event contracts with non-critical suppliers.
• Work with Sourcing Leads for guidance on contract terms, negotiations, and more complex supplier agreements.
• Ensure agreements support business requirements and procurement objectives.

Supplier Performance

• Monitor supplier performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Drive ad hoc corrective and improvement actions to enhance supplier KPIs.
• Support supplier reporting and performance tracking.

Sourcing

• Support market investigations and sourcing initiatives.
• Assist with RFQs, tenders, supplier evaluations, and sourcing events.
• Execute supplier and category strategies under the supervision of Sourcing Leads.
• Support sourcing activities for tactical supplier categories.

Cost Accounting & Analysis

• Analyze supplier costs, pricing, and related financial information.
• Develop and execute action plans to address cost opportunities for non-critical accounts.
• Work with Sourcing Leads when additional guidance is required.

Operational Excellence

• Identify opportunities to improve procurement processes, supplier performance, and departmental efficiency.
• Independently implement process improvements within the department or with assigned suppliers.
• Promote standardization, efficiency, and continuous improvement across procurement activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, Finance, or a related field , preferred.
• Relevant professional experience in procurement, purchasing, sourcing, supply chain, or supplier management may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Previous experience managing suppliers or purchasing activities in a similar role.
• Understanding of the procure-to-pay / requisition-to-pay process .
• Experience with supplier management, sourcing, purchasing, or contract administration.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to review invoices, investigate discrepancies, and drive resolutions.
• Strong communication and relationship-management skills.
• Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate complex issues.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Comfortable working under regular supervision while taking ownership of assigned tactical suppliers and projects.
