Open Arms Pantry Communications Coordinator VISTA

: Open Arms Pregnancy Center serves struggling families, single and/or young mothers, the elderly, and any individual at or near the poverty level in Madison and surrounding counties. Many of our families are in crisis, abuse or addiction cycles, and in immediate need of basic necessities such as diapers, formula, food, housing, utility/rental assistance. Many of the families we serve have been brought up in poverty and do not know any other way of life. OAPC hopes to always meet the immediate needs of people, but we want to better develop and grow existing programs/groups that empower families to rise above poverty, support them in becoming self-sufficient, and ultimately break the cycle of poverty. We feel that our BIPOC community is grossly underserved, and the VISTA would be utilized in finding solutions to connect that community to the services at our center. The goal of the Open Arms Pantry Communications Coordinator VISTA will be to collect information and organize structure for a family support group that helps families become empowered to take steps toward employment, creating small goals, budgets, smart spending habits, and food security to institute a foundation of stability that a family can grow on. Our VISTA will be instrumental in creating and collecting data cards to help Open Arms better understand the leading causes of poverty in our community and collect evidence-based solutions which will give our organization direction on how to combat those leading causes. The Open Arms Food Pantry is critical in serving our food insecure families and the VISTA would also build capacity for the pantry to distribute healthy food box donations for families that will contain fliers on steps to self-sufficiency and invitations to support groups. The VISTA will also be instrumental in connecting community businesses to our local needs and ultimately reporting on the success and growth we hope to see. Member Duties : The VISTA will organize and dissect all data collection to brainstorm ways to build partnerships with other food providers. They will also establish social media through websites including Facebook to better inform food insecure community members that they have access to the pantry and other food related resources. The VISTA must have knowledge of data tracking strategies and software related to the products and needs for the pantry and pregnancy center. Using this data, they will establish fund raising strategies to increase community involvement and local partnerships.
