General Description:
 
The Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Counselor provides onsite and remote behavioral health care to children and families as an integrated component of medical care within PHNTX clinic locations. This staff member will be responsible for providing mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and psychotherapy to children and adolescents. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in child and adolescent therapy and is passionate about helping young individuals cope with developmental or emotional challenges. The counselor will work closely with psychiatric and substance use treatment providers, and PHNTX medical team. As a child and adolescent counselor at PHNTX, you will be an integral part in the expansion of child and adolescent behavioral health services within the organization and the region. Responsibilities Specific Responsibilities of the Job:
 

• Conduct individual and group therapy sessions for children and adolescents using therapeutic methods, like cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), or family therapy.
• Work closely with parents or caregivers, providing guidance and support
• Stay updated with the latest research and best practices in child and adolescent mental health.
• Address issues such as depression, bullying, various mental health issues, and learning difficulties in children by providing appropriate psychological intervention.
• Develop and manage a treatment plan based on bio-psychosocial assessments and client's individual needs.
• Provide evidence-based therapeutic treatment, using various therapeutic techniques tailored to this specific age group to ensure clients' well-being. This includes crisis intervention for patients diagnosed with mental health and/or substance use disorders.
• Consults with psychiatric, substance misuse treatment providers and medical providers to promote client's adherence to the treatment regimen and keeps them informed of potential barriers and concerns.
• Follow all protocols, complete accurate and timely documentation of all clients' encounters as required and submit all necessary reports to the behavioral health director on time.
• Perform other duties as assigned by behavioral health director and program manager.
• Adhere to all professional, ethical, and legal regulations.

Required Skills Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 

• Ability to work in a positive and empathetic manner with adolescents and children.
• Ability to build strong rapport with children and adolescents, establishing a trustful and supportive therapeutic relationship.
• Strong understanding of developmental psychology, family dynamics, socioeconomic and cultural factors, and their impact on child and adolescent mental health.
• Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats.
• Ability to conduct evidence-based therapeutic child and adolescent individual psychotherapy sessions.
• Ability to diagnose mental health and substance misuse disorders in children and adolescents based on clinical assessment.
• Ability to create and implement effective treatment plans and handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with clients and their families.
• Ability to effectively collaborate with medical and other service providers.
• Comfortable with technology and conducting sessions via telehealth, as required.
• Ability to network with community partners.
• Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Word software applications, including Excel.

Education and Experience:
 

• Master's Degree or Doctorate in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage & Family Therapy- Required
