Surgical Assistant Oral Surgery

Position Summary

The Surgical Assistant supports the oral surgeon in delivering high-quality surgical care by preparing patients, assisting during procedures, maintaining a sterile environment, and ensuring efficient clinical operations. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide excellent patient care in a fast-paced setting.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Surgical Support

• Prepare treatment rooms and surgical instruments for procedures
• Assist the oral surgeon chairside during surgeries (extractions, implants, biopsies, etc.)
• Maintain sterile field and follow strict infection control protocols
• Monitor patients' vital signs during procedures
• Assist with anesthesia set-up and monitoring (as permitted by state regulations)
• Take and develop dental radiographs (CBCT, panoramic, periapical)

Patient Care

• Escort patients to treatment rooms and prepare them for surgery
• Review medical histories and update patient records
• Provide pre-operative and post-operative instructions clearly and compassionately
• Ensure patient comfort and safety before, during, and after procedures
• Respond to patient questions and concerns professionally

Sterilization & Infection Control

• Sterilize instruments and maintain sterilization logs
• Follow OSHA and CDC guidelines for infection prevention
• Ensure operatories are properly cleaned and stocked

Administrative & Operational Support

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in patient charts
• Assist with inventory management and ordering supplies
• Help keep clinical areas organized and efficient
• Support front office as needed with patient flow

Certifications and Safety Requirements:

1. Basic CPR Certification required
2. Oral and Maxillofacial Assisting/Dental Assistant Certification preferred
3. Hepatitis B Vaccination & Titer
4. TB Vaccination & Titer
5. X-ray certification REQUIRED
