Job Description

The Registered Nurse – IMCU/PCU Step-Down provides comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring a higher level of monitoring and care than a general medical-surgical unit but who do not require full ICU-level care.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care to IMCU/PCU patients in accordance with hospital policies and nursing standards.
• Monitor patients with complex and/or unstable medical conditions and recognize changes in patient status.
• Perform ongoing assessments, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient outcomes.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms, vital signs, oxygen saturation, and other critical patient parameters.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and other treatments as ordered.
• Manage patients requiring telemetry, oxygen therapy, and other higher-acuity interventions.
• Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team regarding patient care.
• Respond promptly to changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Maintain patient safety and follow infection-control and hospital protocols.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of recent IMCU/PCU/Step-Down or equivalent higher-acuity RN experience
• Active California RN license
• BLS, ACLS, and CPI certifications required
• Strong experience with telemetry/cardiac monitoring and higher-acuity patients
