At the Drexel Heights Community Center, we are looking for a part-time, energetic person who enjoys working with kids at our after-school program. The hours will be in the afternoon on Monday - Friday. The Recreation Aide assists in the daily operation of recreational activities, including sports, crafts, and games; maintains facility cleanliness and order; provides information to the public about programs; handles cash transactions and prepares reports; and supports various recreational events and activities.

Essential Functions:

As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. • Assists in overseeing any one of several recreation activities, such as sports, dance, twirling, crafts and table games;
• Assists in operation of leagues, tournaments, meets, and the daily programmed activities;
• Interprets and explains game rules and referees and umpires ball games;
• Keeps recreation facility in a clean and orderly condition;
• Issues receipts;
• Prepares cash reports;
• Gives information to the public regarding recreation facilities and programs;
• Shows movies;
• Maintains projection equipment;
• Tells or reads stories to children;
• Maintains attendance and other records and prepares reports.
  

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of training and experience which demonstrates the minimum knowledge and skills.

Preferred Qualifications : (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

• Experience providing recreational activities.
• Experience coaching youth sports.
• Experience working in a daycare setting.
• Experience teaching classes in a recreation or school setting.

Selection Procedure :

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certifications : Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items : The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Physical/Sensory Work Requirements : Physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position. Action Activity - bending; Motion Activity - simple and firm grasping and fine movement; Hearing Activity - in noisy areas, on a radio and behind themselves; Speaking Activity - in person, on the phone and on a radio; Vision - distinguish colors, have depth perception and peripheral vision.
