The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is a major teaching hospital and the headquarters of the VA New York/New Jersey Health Care Network, serving a large and diverse population of Veterans across the greater New York region. The Practice Opportunity

As a Primary Care Physician, you will join a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) and manage a panel of Veterans in an outpatient clinic setting. You will deliver care through in-person, video, telephone, and designated telework visits, providing routine and urgent primary care, prescribing medications, ordering diagnostic studies, and coordinating preventive health services. You will collaborate daily with your PACT medical support assistant, LPN, and RN through team huddles, complete clinical reminders, and maintain timely documentation. Opportunities include supervising and teaching internal medicine residents and medical students, collaborating with mid-level providers, and serving as a float provider across primary care, employee health, and Community Based Outreach Clinics as needed. This role offers meaningful clinical work, teaching, and the chance to shape the care of the Veteran community.

Requirements

Basic Requirements

• United States citizenship, with non-citizens appointed only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.

• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.

• Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.

• Residency training completed in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification eligibility, or qualifying alternate pathways defined by VA qualification standards.

• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
