Sirius Staffing is seeking an experienced Controls & Automation Engineer for a 12-month contract opportunity in Lenexa, KS. Schedule: Monday-Friday, first shift flex schedule. Summary: This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and optimizing industrial control systems within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) PLC platforms, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial automation technologies. This position plays a key role in supporting production reliability, implementing automation improvements, and minimizing equipment downtime.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and modify PLC programs using Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) platforms, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix.
• Program and support PLCs using Studio 5000 and RSLogix 5000 software.
• Configure, troubleshoot, and maintain HMI/SCADA systems, including FactoryTalk View SE/ME, Ignition, or similar platforms.
• Support the complete lifecycle of automation projects from concept, design, installation, commissioning, startup, and handoff to operations.
• Diagnose and resolve PLC, electrical, instrumentation, networking, and control system issues to minimize production downtime.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation including electrical schematics, P&IDs, control narratives, wiring diagrams, and programming standards.
• Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, quality, and safety.
• Perform preventative maintenance audits on automation and control systems while recommending system improvements.
• Provide technical support for critical manufacturing systems, including occasional on-site or on-call support as needed.
• Train maintenance technicians and production personnel on equipment operation, PLC systems, and basic troubleshooting procedures.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, ISA/IEC, and company engineering standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, reliability, and process optimization.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 3–5 years of hands-on industrial automation or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Required experience with Rockwell Automation (Allen-Bradley) PLC platforms, including: ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix.
• Experience programming using: Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as: FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware (or similar).
• Strong understanding of industrial networking protocols, including: EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, Modbus.
• Experience troubleshooting: PLCs, VFDs, Servo systems, Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Industrial instrumentation, Sensors.
• Ability to read and interpret: Electrical schematics, Wiring diagrams, Mechanical drawings, P&IDs.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Rockwell Automation Certified Logix Designer (CLD)
• Experience with ISA-88 Batch Control Systems
• Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
• ERP integration (SAP preferred)
• Industrial robotics (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, etc.)
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
• Process manufacturing experience in: Food & Beverage, Chemical Manufacturing, Packaging, Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences
• Industrial Control Systems (ICS) cybersecurity knowledge
