With 204‑beds, it is the third largest of the four Duke Health hospitals and offers a comprehensive array of services, including cancer, cardiovascular, neuroscience, advanced gastrointestinal, and wound healing care. This position is eligible for up to $8,000 Relocation & $7,500 Commitment Bonus*** General Description Of The Job Class The Dosimetrist is a core member of the radiation oncology treatment‑planning team. Under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist (RO) and/or a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP), the Dosimetrist generates clinically acceptable treatment plans and dose calculations, communicates planning intent with the team, and supports safe, accurate implementation of the prescribed course of therapy. Duties And Responsibilities Of This Level Participate in patient data acquisition for planning (e.g., simulation support, image registration/fusion) and incorporate imaging into plans per directives. Collaborate with the RO to understand prescription and clinical objectives; create, evaluate, and optimize treatment plans and generate dose calculations with appropriate secondary checks. Delineate clearly discernable normal structures and create planning structures as directed; review OAR/target completeness with the RO prior to plan approval. Accurately transfer and document treatment parameters (manual/electronic) per departmental policy; support therapists during plan implementation and parameter verification. Perform plan/chart checks per departmental policy; participate in quality management activities (huddles, chart rounds, peer review). Participate in special procedures (e.g., SRS/SBRT/TBI/TSI/IORT) and in brachytherapy as trained/credentialed, including assisting with source handling under supervision of the Authorized User and/or QMP, and in accordance with NRC/state regulations and institutional policy. Apply ALARA and radiation safety principles to protect patients, staff, and the public. Participate in fiscal practices (e.g., billing) per departmental policy and contribute to clinical research/innovation and education as requested. Required Qualifications At This Level Education If originally credentialed by MDCB prior to 2017 no additional education required. If uncredentialed, or credentialed by MDCB after 2017, must have Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Medical Dosimetry, Radiation Therapy, Physics, Mathematics, or related scientific field and completion of a JRCERT-accredited Medical Dosimetry program. Experience Demonstrated progressive clinical experience in medical dosimetry and radiation therapy treatment planning under appropriate clinical supervision required. Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) through the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) preferred at time of hire. Candidates who are board eligible through the MDCB must obtain CMD credential within two (2) years of hire. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Comprehensive understanding of radiation safety, medical dosimetry principles, and planning workflows; strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to learn and adapt to evolving planning systems and clinical technologies. Effective communication and collaboration with RO, QMP, RTT, and allied personnel; clear documentation and adherence to institutional and regulatory policies. Commitment to ongoing professional development and MDCB Maintenance of Certification.
