Summary
The Technical Trainer and Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible for delivering competency-based, hands-on OJT and classroom training to Truck, Trailer, Technicians and Heavy Equipment Mechanics. This role ensures maintenance employees are prepared for a wide range of occupational opportunities within our shops, supported by conducting quality assurance inspection audits to reinforce training effectiveness. This position is also responsible for overseeing the maintenance department's oil, lubricant, and fluid sample analysis program to ensure program health and performance against established metrics. Additionally, the role monitors technician shop rework metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Education and Experience
1. Must have a degree or diploma from an accredited Heavy Equipment and/or Diesel Technician program and five (5) years of relevant experience, or eight (8) years of relevant truck and trailer repair experience in lieu of a degree.
2. OEM chassis and engine qualification and certifications are preferred.
3. Must possess Master Medium/Heavy Duty ASE certification or obtain certification within one year of hire. ASE L2 (Engine Diagnostics) certification is preferred.
4. Must successfully complete the AED Foundation Technical Assessment with a score of 65% or higher as a condition of employment and achieve a score of 70% or higher within one year of hire.
5. Excellent working knowledge of DOT and government safety standards.
6. Proficient computer skills and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
7. Working knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
8. Excellent collaboration, organizational, SOP development, and communication skills (written, listening and verbal).
9. Excellent multi-tasking skills in a fast pace working environment.
10. Must have the ability to operate vehicles; valid Class A driver’s license preferred.
11. Must have forklift certification and ability to train maintenance personnel within 90 days of employment.
12. Willing and able to travel up to eight (8) weeks per year to ATS shop locations as needed.
13. Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and success of all staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provides hands-on OJT and technical coaching on the shop floor while assisting technicians and mechanics with complex diagnostic and repair concerns.
2. Delivers classroom instruction, coursework, and hands-on qualification training using effective competency-based learning methods.
3. Evaluates and documents employee competency attainment, course progress, work-based learning experiences and workplace behaviors while providing feedback to shop management.
4. Identifies performance trends and recommends process improvements related to training, workmanship quality, and maintenance practices.
5. Supports the administration of technician skill assessments and helps align work assignments with demonstrated competency levels.
6. Maintains training records, certifications, and related documentation for maintenance employees.
7. Collaborates with maintenance leadership to develop, enhance, and implement training programs for new and existing employees.
8. Performs daily workmanship quality assurance inspection to ensure preventive maintenance, repair guidelines, and SOPs are consistently followed across ATS shops.
9. Oversees the oil, lubricant, and fluid analysis program, monitoring results and coordinating follow-up actions for equipment requiring attention.
10. Promotes and reinforces safe work practices by supporting the development, implementation, and consistent application of safety policies and procedures, including forklift operation, Right to Know, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, and related programs.
11. Supports ATS’ culture by aligning actions, behaviors, performance, and decisions in accordance with the Company’s values as set forth in our All-Employee Competencies.
12. Understands and consistently performs in accordance with ATS’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
13. Completes work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and must be willing to travel.
14. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

· Frequently in a stationary position, however, at times frequently move around to obtain tools, supplies, parts or to inspect equipment.
· Frequently operates a keyboard and mouse and constantly utilizes a computer monitor(s).
· Frequently inspecting and assessing equipment to determine whether to replace or repair and the best approach to replace/repair.
· Intermittently positioning self under, on top of, or in awkward positions to work on equipment.
· Occasionally uses hand tools and power hand tools to repair equipment, manipulate parts into position or enter data into computer.
This role will be exposed in an environment with the following conditions:
· Loud noises constantly require hearing protection.
· Temperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions.
· Dirt, dust, grease, chemicals and odors constantly.
· Situations requiring eye protection and steel toed boots and when welding, an approved shield.
