Reading Interventionist/Specialist(s) (South Coast Ed Collaborative 12 months/5 days per week)

Reading Interventionist / Specialist Location: Swansea, Massachusetts Starting Date: Jul 6, 2026 Position Type: Full-time Responsibilities Assess students throughout the Collaborative and identify students at‑risk relative to literacy skills. Design and implement useful reading interventions using research‑based methodology. Communicate with Collaborative personnel and parents/guardians of students regarding reading levels and rate of progress. Complete student evaluations/screenings/standardized testing in accordance with Collaborative guidelines. Provide direct instruction in individual and small group interventions and assist with classroom implementation. Complete daily service documentation. Gather, compile, and disaggregate data; and link that data to student learning and inform instruction. Differentiate instruction based on assessment data. Write professional reports, develop Individual Education Programs (IEP), and maintain data collection employing research‑based best practice strategies to demonstrate student progress and adjust student goals. Document interventions and progress on each student. Develop and implement lesson plans and provide written evidence of preparation as required. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Present subject matter according to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks using deeper learning pedagogy. Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the Collaborative. Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents/guardians and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state and Collaborative regulations and policies for educators. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required. Request support when necessary. Other student‑related assigned responsibilities as needed. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
• Licensed or the ability to get licensed as a teacher in Massachusetts
• Certification and/or advanced training in specialized reading programs (Orton‑Gillingham, Wilson, etc.) or willingness to get certified
• Knowledge of specialized instruction relative to reading
• Experience working with at‑risk students relative to literacy skills
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
• Open to training other teachers in effective reading strategies
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and manage a therapeutic and engaging learning environment for students with moderate/severe disabilities
• Demonstrated understanding of deeper learning or willingness to adopt a deeper learning pedagogy, project‑based learning, and Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) related interdisciplinary teaching methods
• Demonstrated understanding of collaborative problem‑solving (CPS) or willingness to learn and adapt its principles and techniques with students, staff and families
• Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn to create and sustain a respectful therapeutic environment in which social communication and self‑regulation are major goals and transactional supports are provided
• Experience with the use of data to inform and guide educational and therapeutic classroom and individual student programming
• Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
• Demonstrated ability to work on behalf of students in a collegial and skillful fashion with staff, families, and Collaborative employees
• Demonstrated ability to implement with integrity recommendations of internal and external expert consultants and related service providers regarding individual students and classroom practices and expectations
• Understanding the process and requirements for inclusion of students with moderate/severe intellectual disabilities within the public‑school environment
• Ability to work collaboratively with other reading specialists/reading interventionists within SCEC
• Open to continuous learning as a professional to meet the needs of an ever‑changing student population
• Certification in Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid within 30 days of hire and commitment to keep certification current
• Certification in Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI) within 30 days of hire and commitment to keep certification current
• Ability to independently lift up to 39 pounds
• Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university (preferred)
• Licensed or the ability to get licensed as a Reading Specialist (All Levels) in Massachusetts (preferred)
• Experience working in a therapeutic school setting and ability to develop, implement, and manage an engaging learning environment for students with moderate/severe intellectual and regulation challenges (preferred)
• Minimum 2 years experience working with students with moderate/severe disabilities (preferred)
• Experience working with students who are non‑speaking (preferred)
• Experience developing procedures and protocols related to the provision of reading services in a Collaborative environment (preferred)
• Working knowledge of Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Supports (SCERTS) model (preferred)
• Knowledge of assessment and use of technology to enhance student learning (preferred)
• Ability to use technology and leverage digital to enhance instruction practices and professional responsibilities (preferred)
• Membership and participation in educational organizations which promote continuous professional growth (preferred)
• References required.
• At least 2 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• Master degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
