Registered Respiratory Therapist - Pediatrics

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RCP) will provide high-quality respiratory care services to pediatric patients across various units including Pediatric ICU, Neonatal ICU, and Emergency Room settings. This role requires proficiency in a wide range of therapeutic modalities and patient management techniques.

Key responsibilities include:

• Administer medicated aerosol therapy using small volume nebulizers, breath actuated nebulizers, and vibrating mesh nebulizers.
• Educate patients and families on aerosol, Metered-Dose Inhaler (MDI), and Dry Powder Inhaler (DPI) therapies.
• Perform airway clearance therapies including positive expiratory pressure (PEP), hyperinflation therapy, and high-frequency chest wall oscillation.
• Conduct airway management tasks, such as suctioning, tracheostomy care, manual ventilation, and intubation assistance.
• Perform mechanical ventilation, including ventilator system checks, management of CPAP/BiPAP/NIMV, and initiation of Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA).
• Administer surfactant and follow Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) protocols.
• Conduct blood gas sampling, analysis, and interpretation.
• Provide humidity therapy using heated humidifiers and other devices.
• Monitor patients using various techniques including pulse oximetry, capnography, and ventilator graphic interpretation.
• Transport patients with respiratory support, ensuring appropriate care during transfers.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care pathways for conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, and respiratory distress syndrome.

Qualifications include:

• Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• State licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
• Experience working in pediatric and neonatal care preferred.
• Strong communication skills for effective patient and family education.

The RCP will work in multiple areas, including specialized units focused on high-risk deliveries and respiratory care for women and children. This position involves interacting with healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care delivery.
