Per Diem General Medicine Hospitalist

Position is at‑will and will serve at the pleasure of the CEO. Position Summary Responsible for providing direct patient clinical care and managing medical problems of acutely ill, hospitalized patients. The Hospitalist is part of the interdisciplinary team to improve efficiency and facilitate continuum of care for patients from admission to discharge, including general medicine, requested consults, and management of patients with various comorbidities. Education & Experience Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of a three‑year general residency program. Board certified or board eligible in general medicine. Licensing & Certification Requirements Valid medical license issued by the State of Nevada. State of Nevada Pharmacy Board license to prescribe medications and DEA controlled substance registration certificate. Required certifications may include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association. Knowledge Equipment, supplies, and practices; federal, state, local, and accreditation laws, regulations, and standards; related outside agencies and their roles. Principles and practices of medical care; quality assurance and performance improvement principles and methods; department and hospital safety practices and procedures. Patient rights; age‑specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures. Skills Effective provision of medical care and assessment of care effectiveness and efficiency using the hospital QI program. Ensuring services meet patients’ medical, social, and emotional needs while respecting health‑care resource allocation practices. Developing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; applying leadership techniques; making effective decisions under stress and emergency circumstances. Developing care plans; solving problems; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio‑economic and ethnic backgrounds. Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel; efficient, effective, and safe use of equipment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work in a typical office setting using standard equipment; stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods; vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen; hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.
