Job Description Position: Field Property Claim Specialist - AAA The Auto Club Group. Reports to: Claim Manager as appropriate. Location: Metro Detroit, Michigan (Wayne County, Oakland County, Washtenaw County). Candidates must reside in Michigan. What you will do Work under minimal supervision with high-level approval authority to handle complex technical issues and claims. Review assigned claims, contact insured and other affected parties, set expectations for the claim process, and initiate documentation in the claim handling system. Complete complex coverage analysis and identify all possible policyholder benefits. Create additional sub‑claims if needed. Conduct investigations into claim facts, determine whether the claim should be paid, identify applicable limits or exclusions, and assess recovery potential. Review damages thoroughly, determine applicability of state law and related factors. Evaluate the financial value of the loss. Approve payments for the appropriate parties. Refer claims to other units when necessary (Underwriting, Recovery Units, Claims Special Investigation Unit). Document and code the claim file, complete claim closure in the assigned claims management system. Utilize strong negotiating skills. Handle claims valued between $10,000 and $75,000 and sometimes over $100,000; investigate claims requiring coverage analysis. When in the field, prepare damage estimates using Xactimate estimating software, review estimates for accuracy, and monitor contractor repair status and updates if applicable. Supervisory Responsibilities None. How you will benefit Competitive annual salary ranging from $63,000 – $85,000. Required Qualifications Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance or related field, or equivalent experience. Completion of the Insurance Institute of America’s General Insurance Program, Associate in Claims, Associate in Management or equivalent. Completing Xactware Training. Completion of the ACG Claim Representative Training Program or equivalent knowledge/experience. Eligibility to acquire a State Adjuster’s License within 90 days if required; must maintain the license as specified for the state. Valid State Driver’s License. Three years of experience or equivalent training in negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing clear evaluation and resolution plans for claims. Knowledge and Skills Advanced knowledge of the Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims, sub‑rogation procedures, intercompany arbitration, handling simple litigation, building construction and repair techniques. Ability to handle claims to line claim handling standards, follow and apply ACG Claim policies and procedures, work within assigned ACG Claim systems (basic PC software), perform claim file review and investigations, demonstrate effective communication skills, customer service, problem solving, prioritize claim‑related functions, manage time, organize and plan workload, safely operate a motor vehicle for inspections and repairs, research sub‑rogation laws, travel outside of the assigned territory, and reside in Michigan (specified counties). Preferred Qualifications 1–2 years of full‑cycle homeowner’s claims handling experience. Experience handling personal property and additional living expense claims. Experience with internal water loss, fire and smoke claims. Michigan Adjuster’s License preferred but not required. Associate degree in Claims. Work Environment This position is primarily remote from a home office with required travel to field locations. Travel may include overnight stays and varies by assignment.
