Night Auditor Position at Lone Mountain Ranch

Lone Mountain Ranch (LMR), situated on 148 acres in beautiful Big Sky, Montana, was first homesteaded in 1915 and has long been recognized as one of the premier guest ranch resorts in the country. The property consists of 30 rooms located within 24 unique cabins as well as the Horn & Cantle Restaurant and Saloon, the Ranch Hall, the Outpost, equestrian facilities, event venues and meeting spaces. The Night Auditor serves as the overnight steward of the Ranchmaintaining safety, accuracy, and hospitality after hours while ensuring the property is secure, welcoming, and well-prepared for the day ahead. This role blends overnight audit responsibilities with a visible security presence, hands-on cleaning, and early-morning guest service.

While the Night Auditor is primarily based in the Outpost overnight, they will periodically secure the space in order to conduct property safety checks or respond to guest needs in cabin areas. This role requires confidence and awareness when moving about the Ranch after hours, with a thoughtful approach to safety in a remote environment where wildlife is part of the landscapeoffering guests peace of mind through a steady, prepared presence.

This position is well-suited for someone who is calm, observant, guest-focused, and comfortable taking ownership of the Ranch during quiet hours.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary overnight point of contact for guests, responding promptly and professionally to calls or requests from cabins
  • Secure and monitor the Outpost, the Horn & Cantle, and cabin areas throughout the night, maintaining a visible and reassuring overnight presence
  • Conduct routine overnight safety and security checks of the property, including monitoring lighting, doors, walkways, and activity in guest areas
  • Ensure all Ranch vehicles and keys are returned, secured, and accounted for at the end of the day
  • Complete nightly audit procedures, including reviewing reports, closing out systems, and preparing required overnight documentation
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of overnight work areas, including light cleaning and restroom cleaning, ensuring spaces are refreshed and guest-ready for the morning.
  • Oversee and execute the morning coffee service for guest cabins, ensuring orders are reviewed, prepared with care, and delivered in a timely and thoughtful manner
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with Outpost team members to pass along important overnight information and ensure continuity of service
  • Provide support for overnight transportation needs for Ranch guest and Auric Room Members, including late-night dining transportation as needed.
  • Work directly with the Transportation Manager and drivers regarding guest movements, early departures, or overnight transportation needs
  • Coordinate with managers and department leads for late-night events, dining service at the Horn & Cantle, or other after-hours operations
  • Communicate clearly with the Front Desk Manager regarding overnight activity, guest concerns, safety issues, maintenance needs, or notable observations
  • Support early morning departures or guest needs as they arise
  • Uphold confidentiality, safety protocols, and Ranch standards at all times
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in hospitality, night audit, security, or guest-facing roles preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete overnight reporting accurately
  • Comfortable working independently and making sound judgment calls during overnight hours
  • Demonstrated awareness of safety and security best practices
  • Experience with bear and wildlife safety in remote or grizzly habitat environments required
  • Warm, welcoming demeanor with a natural ability to put guests at ease
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with others across departments
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems, experience using or learning property management software, and the ability to accurately complete light data entry tasks.
  • Valid driver's license required; must be comfortable driving and moving about the property in all weather conditions
Work Environment
  • Overnight shift; weekend and holiday availability required
  • Frequent walking throughout the Ranch, including cabin areas, often in low-light conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs, including coffee service supplies and retail items
  • Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Must be comfortable working alone overnight and navigating a remote environment with active wildlife presence

Seasonal employees are hired to work for a pre-determined period of less than 12 months. At the end of the temporary period, employment is terminated. If a seasonal employee wishes to be considered for future employment, they may reapply but will be considered a new employee for all purposes.

Seasonal Bonus Program

All hourly seasonal employees are eligible to participate.

  • $1 per regular hour worked
  • $1.50 per overtime hour worked
  • Applies to hours worked within defined seasonal dates
  • Short-term contracted roles are eligible

Employees who resign or are terminated prior to season completion are not eligible. If the season ends early due to business levels, eligible employees will still participate.

Ranch Gratuity
  • Collected on all guest stays and ranch bookings
  • Added on to base hourly rate
  • Distributed to eligible employees
