Clinical Nurse Specialist/Clinical Education, Labor & Delivery Mother/BabyThe Department of Nursing at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist/Clinical Education, Labor & Delivery Mother/Baby. Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing for Maternal Child Health, the successful candidate will:Function as a clinical educator and nursing service expert.Assess learning needs of clinical staff and implement evidence-based education to enhance maternal-fetal careDevelop and implement orientation plans for new employees and follow orientees through their orientationCollaborate with the Director of Clinical Professional Development to adjust the program based on evaluation results.Coordinate, mentor and work with new orientees and preceptorsCollaborate with OB team to conduct simulations/drills to follow regulatory standardsMonitor nursing care quality standards and implement corrective actions as needed.Attend and participate in committees to represent nursing staff needs and the individual population, and participate in writing of care standards.Identify staff training needs and collaborate with the ICL Department of Nursing Education to develop and implement educational programs.Participate in evaluating staff competency.Design and identify educational activities to address practice gaps for identified target audiences, including licensed and non-licensed healthcare personnel.Develop activities to achieve specific outcomes related to identified deficits or opportunities for improvement in knowledge, skill, and practice. Plans educational content delivery that encourages learner engagement.Promote and integrate evidence-based practice (EBP) to continuously improve practice.Conduct, encourage, facilitate, and/or participate in research, EBP, and QI in patient care settings.Identify and develop strategies to facilitate a continuous maturation process through lifelong learning.Utilizes novice-to-expert continuum when developing staff.Identifies and provides opportunities for skill enhancement and mastery.Works with Assistant Director of Nursing and Director of Nursing to achieve annual unit goals and objectivesMaintain staff educational log and ensure staff are up to date in clinical knowledgeRequired QualificationsMaster's Degree in Nursing.New York State Registered Nurse Licensure.5+ years of experience in the specialty, to include some level of supervisory experience.Knowledge of performance improvement and regulatory requirements (e.g. TJC requirements)Proficient oral and written communication skillsAbility to collaborate effectively as a team leader in a dynamic, academic healthcare setting, proactive in planning and implementing changeAmerican Heart Association BLS, ACLS, NRP and Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certifications (instructor certification preferred)Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and ExcelMember of Professional Organization, AWHONNOr, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and trainingAbout UsAre you looking to take your career to new heights with a leader in healthcare?SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is one of the nation's leading metropolitan medical centers.
