Join a physician-led multispecialty group comprising over 600 providers, dedicated to a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to patient care. This role is situated within the surgical oncology department, working alongside fellow cancer surgeons, including those specialized in colorectal, breast, gynecologic, and advanced foregut and minimally invasive surgery. This dynamic practice offers a blend of approximately 50-75% surgical oncology and 25-50% complex benign general surgery cases, with a strong focus on minimally invasive techniques, robotics, and advanced therapeutic endoscopy. You will utilize a range of cutting-edge surgical tools and methods, including robotic systems, endoscopic procedures, and advanced laparoscopic techniques.

The surgical oncology department is integrated into the organization’s accredited oncology program, collaborating closely with medical and radiation oncology teams. Enjoy a balanced professional life in the picturesque city of Boise, Idaho, where the pace is relaxed. The facility, a Level II Trauma Center with 387 beds, boasts a modern digital environment and innovative technologies, including advanced imaging and award-winning clinical services. This full-time Surgical Oncology/Hepato-biliary position follows a traditional workweek, Monday through Friday, with at least 32 hours dedicated to patient interactions, encompassing clinic visits, procedures, and consultations. The call schedule is 1:6, with no unattached emergency room calls and no responsibilities for acute care general surgery.

Support: Benefit from a robust network of over 70 primary care clinics and partnerships with independent community organizations. The facility includes a Level II Trauma Center, an emergency department, four da Vinci robotic systems (two DV5 and two Xi), and 24/7 access to Anesthesia, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, Vascular & Cardiothoracic Surgery, as well as Fellowship-Trained Surgical and Pulmonary Intensivists, Cardiologists, Neurologists, and specialists in Neuro Critical Care, Wound & Hyperbaric treatments (Sechrist Monoplace 4100 chamber). Additional support includes an emergency department, surgical intensive care unit, medical intensive care unit, cardiovascular intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, hospitalists, diabetes care, inpatient pain management, and palliative care.

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
  • Completion of an accredited ACGME/AOA general surgery residency program.
  • Board certification from the American Board of Surgery (ABS) or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery (AOBS), or the ability to obtain such certification within three years of employment.
  • Completion of a Surgical Oncology or Hepato-Biliary fellowship.
  • Experience with open, minimally invasive, and robotic surgical techniques for treating hepatobiliary, pancreatic, esophageal, gastric, adrenal, and colorectal cancers.
  • Ability to perform both basic and complex advanced general surgical procedures.
  • A collaborative leadership style that fosters teamwork within the oncology and surgical programs to uphold accreditation with the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
  • Eligibility for Idaho medical licensure and privileges at the facility and other affiliated hospitals as required; valid controlled substance registration with the Board of Pharmacy and DEA.
