Marine Designer (Mechanical), Senior

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated senior-level Marine Designer with experience in marine mechanical engineering for the design of ships and boats to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)s Ship Design Team in Baltimore MD. An ideal candidate will have prior experience with creating 3D drawings and models for ships and boats with a focus on marine piping as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs standards and regulations.

Typical Responsibilities:

• Support naval architect and marine engineering efforts for the design of ships and boats and the recapitalization of existing ships and boats.
• Develop arrangement models and diagrams to support ship design and operation.
• Create and modify CAD drawings of new and current systems for improvement.
• Work with stakeholders to use software to build and test new system configurations.

Location: Full time onsite at USCG Surfaces Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore MD. After a probationary period may have some limited hybrid flex (but still primarily onsite).

Travel: Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g. tight spaces ladders hatches) or vision.

Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is Required: This position requires eligibility for a Secret security clearance to be obtained after hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance ; therefore only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.

Typical Pay Range: The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education qualifications and experience.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Twenty (20) years of experience creating 3D drawings with AutoCAD (or equivalent) software.
• At least three (3) years of experience working with marine piping.
• Strong knowledge and skill in the use of the Autodesk AutoCAD software suite.
• Proficient with common productivity software.
• Strong communications skills.

Additional Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.
• Relevant professional certifications.
