These surveys ensure that all state licensed, and federally certified health care facilities meet the established state and/or federal requirements and patients and residents receive safe, quality health care. Field Operations staff also ensure the safety of residents in health care facilities when emergencies such as natural disasters occur. The Work You Will Do The primary function of the Registered Nurse Specialist is to conduct inspections utilizing an established survey process. The survey process includes evaluation of health care facilities for state licensure and federal certification requirements for participation under Medicare/Medicaid. The incumbent will document findings and complete written reports of survey findings. The incumbent may be required to perform surveys as an individual, team member or team leader. As assigned by management, this position is required to successfully complete the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test within the first 12 months of employment as required by Sections 1819(g)(2)(c)(ii) of the Social Security Act, as amended, and Article IV(B) of the Agreement pursuant to Section 1864 of the Social Security Act. This position has been identified as mission essential. The incumbent in this position may be required to work during the weekend or on holidays. In addition, mission essential personnel will be required to work during disasters, to include but not limited to, work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency work may involve the incumbent to work in another county or staffing location to assist other State Agencies with emergency work. Emergency duties may include, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of nursing principles, practices and techniques; anatomy and physiology; state licensure and federal certification survey requirements; methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data. Ability to develop and implement various programs monitoring methodologies and techniques; understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures; prioritize workload; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate effectively. Skills in oral communication, listening, interview procedures, team dynamics, and performance evaluations/reviews. Ability to utilize microcomputer equipment and software to enter, retrieve and manipulate data required to perform supervision of division licensure and certification functions. Ability to travel with or without accommodations. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis (laptop computers, manuals, etc.) with or without accommodations. Minimum Qualifications Licensure as a registered professional nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 and two years of professional nursing experience is required.
