International Trade Associate or Counsel Export Controls

Job Overview A law firm seeks a highly qualified Associate or Counsel to join its International Trade practice group in New York, New York. The ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of experience in U.S. export controls, focusing on the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Duties Provide regulatory and compliance guidance on EAR and ITAR. Conduct jurisdiction and classification analysis, including Commodity Jurisdiction and CCATS requests. Obtain export licenses and analyze license exceptions and exemptions. Conduct party screening and due diligence. Review and prepare DDTC registrations and related filings. Develop international trade compliance programs. Provide export controls compliance training. Represent clients in voluntary self-disclosures and M&A-related trade compliance diligence. Perform internal investigations and audits related to export control concerns. Requirements 3-6 years of experience in U.S. export controls. Experience with EU and UK export controls regimes is a plus. Experience with encryption and emerging technologies is a plus. Experience with economic sanctions, outbound investment, and CFIUS is a plus. Member of the state bar or eligible for admission by waiver. Excellent academic credentials. Strong organizational, writing, and analytical skills. Education Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Certifications State bar membership or eligibility for admission by waiver.
