We are seeking a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to join our respected practice in Sycamore, Illinois. Ideal candidates will have at least two years of recent experience as an Ophthalmic Technician. COA/COT certification is highly preferred. The Ophthalmic Technician I will perform a range of duties which include preparing the patient to see an Ophthalmologist and/or Optometrist and conducting preliminary exams and capturing medical history. In addition, the preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments, and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures may be required. Traveling to other locations may also be necessary to support clinical needs. Responsibilities Make introductions and establish rapport with patients Initiate patient evaluation, documenting the chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, and all pertinent ocular findings accurately and in accordance with compliance guidelines. Perform pre‑exam testing to include visual acuity assessment, including pinhole and glare testing, confrontational visual field testing, assess extra‑ocular muscles, pupillary evaluation, tonometry, assess angles, pupillary dilation, and all other patient services as requested by the physician including specialty tests such as color vision screening, stereopsis, and dry eye testing Perform lensometry and specialized testing such as visual fields, keratometry, A/B scans, and ophthalmic photography, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and optical biometry Additional testing as requested by doctor Perform retinoscopy and refractometry. Assist with minor surgical procedures or laser treatments in the office Assist with fitting contact lenses and instruct patients in care and insertion of lenses Complete requests for prescription refills as authorized by physician, with full documentation in patient chart Educate patients regarding administration of medications and pre‑ and post‑operative instructions as directed by physicians Check temperature of medical refrigerator daily Maintain and conduct inventory of medications and supplies Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment Clean surgical instruments in preparation for sterile processing Inspect instruments periodically for damage, send for repair, and request a replacement, as necessary Open and close exam lanes daily, ensuring that equipment is wiped down in an appropriate manner and as per office procedures, battery powered instruments are seated properly in re‑charging wells, slit lamps and projectors are switched off under covers Follow all safety procedures as per guidelines Prioritize building and maintaining a positive relationship with doctors and clinical colleagues Execute duties of position in a professional and courteous manner Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner Perform other tasks and duties as assigned Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors Basic computer literacy required Highly energetic with a positive attitude Must be willing to travel to other offices occasionally to meet the demands of business Must be able to walk and stand for eight hours Must be able to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) preferred Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred One to two years’ experience in multi‑specialty clinic preferred In Turn We Will Provide Benefits to full‑time team members that include comprehensive medical, dental and optical coverage, 401(k) and short‑ and long‑term disability Company paid life insurance Paid parking where applicable Paid holidays and generous paid time off Team oriented working environment where you are heard and respected Clear career ladder opportunities Offered pay $20-$24 per hour #J-18808-Ljbffr
