The nurse assists the Church and the school in the mission of evangelizing, fostering Catholic School culture by serving as a witness to students and the community. The nurse contributes to the academic, spiritual, and social education of high school students, is required to obtain necessary certificates, participate in continual professional development, and maintain detailed and accurate records as required by the school. This position requires effective communication via phone and email, accurate completion of duties, timely delivery, flexibility, forward thinking, deadline management, willingness to seek the latest educational practices and implement them, and reliance on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Essential Job Functions Plans and implements school health programs in cooperation with administration. Completes hearing screenings for freshmen. Provides health care services to students. Maintains accurate health records for all students. Dispenses medication according to diocesan policy. Keeps an accurate daily log of all student contacts. Assists with attendance issues as directed by the principal. Participates in medical examinations as directed by diocesan or school policy. Counsels students in good health habits. Instructs classes in skills relating to health, first aid, and emergencies. Participates in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of students. Continues professional development to remain current in the field. Performs any other job‑related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Personal self‑discipline, adaptability and flexibility in routine and unexpected situations. Good judgment in daily encounters. Correct use of verbal and written language. Appropriate sense of humor. Knowledge and understanding of good teaching techniques and child psychology. Maintains appropriate grooming and dress as stated in the faculty handbook. Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The position requires some evening and weekend hours. Minimum Qualification Preference given to a practicing Catholic; faith persons of other faiths are welcome. Willing to make a public Profession of Faith if Catholic; if non‑Catholic, willing to support Catholic teachings and philosophy. Must have Arizona School Nurse Certification. Must keep the hearing screen certificate current. Experience working with children and/or school health programs; genuine liking for and ability to work with children. Current CPR certification. Good physical condition. Initiative, creativity, problem‑solving skills, judgment in handling different personalities and emerging situations. Proficient communication skills with both children and adults; positive attitude in crisis situations; ability to work cooperatively with others. Knowledge and understanding of positive disciplinary techniques and child psychology. Receive Safe Environment Training and signed Code of Conduct. Arizona Fingerprint clearance completed. Terms of Employment This is an on‑call, substitute School Nurse position; hours are determined by coverage needs of the primary school nurse. This role does not guarantee a set schedule or minimum number of hours. Compensation is paid on an hourly basis. The Leadership Committee establishes base pay rates and applicable stipends.
