Litigation Associate

Full-time

Distinct | North America

Litigation Associate | Miami, FL | $300,000 to $440,000 | Privacy and Data Litigation

Data breaches used to be an IT problem. Now they're a docket.

Privacy class actions, cyber incidents, biometric claims and data use disputes are among the fastest moving areas of litigation in the country. The law is still being written, often case by case, and the lawyers who build real expertise now will be the ones clients call for the next decade.

I'm Ryan Jaiswal at Distinct Recruitment, and I'm hiring a senior litigation associate in Miami for an AmLaw 100 firm with a serious privacy and cyber litigation practice.

The practice

• Defending companies in privacy, cybersecurity and data related litigation, including class actions

• Matters arising from data breaches, tracking technologies, biometric privacy and consumer protection statutes

• Working with a national team on high profile, high stakes matters

• Strategy, motion practice, class certification fights and appeals

• Close collaboration with clients' legal, security and compliance teams

The candidate

• Florida Bar required

• 5+ years of litigation experience at a strong firm

• Privacy experience helps, but excellent commercial or class action litigators with real interest in the area should apply

• Strong writing and the ability to explain technical concepts simply, to judges and to clients

The compensation

• $300,000 to $440,000. The range is purposely broad because there's flex for the right candidate if experience warrants it

• I'll give you my honest view on where you'd land before your application goes anywhere

Why move into privacy now

Specialisms are most valuable when they're young. Privacy litigation still has relatively few true experts and a rapidly growing volume of work, which means lawyers who commit now can become the go to names in the field while it's still taking shape. Doing that on a national platform, with the resources and matters that come with it, is the fastest way to build that reputation from Miami.

The practical side

• A Miami seat with the reach of a national practice

• Matters that tend to be complex and intellectually demanding, rather than repetitive
