Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PICU - Pediatric Intensive Care Discipline: RN Start Date: 12/07/2026 Duration: 13 weeks 36 hours per week Shift: 12 hours, rotating Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview Shift: Rotating, 3x12hrs Hours: 36 hrs/wk Start Date: Dec 7, 2026 Length: 13 weeks Openings: 1 Description American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric ICU position requiring a CA RN license, 2 years of recent independent PICU experience, and CVP/ICP monitoring skills. Details High acuity Pediatric ICU (PICU) unit within a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital Patient population includes injury, respiratory failure, shock, multi-system failure, poisonings, near drowning, meningitis, post-op cardiac surgical care, and neurosurgery cases Patient ratio of 1:1-2 Variable Day/Night or straight night shifts available (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:00 or 19:00-7:00) Weekend requirements vary by shift: day shift requires 4 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun), night shift requires 5 weekend shifts (Fri/Sat), with one full weekend off per 4-week schedule No on-call requirements Floating within scope required to meet facility needs, including between PICU, CVPICU, and NICU units Uses Epic charting system Any scrub color permitted Free traveler parking available Requirements Active CA RN license required, or must have an ETA for licensure to be considered Current BLS and PALS certifications required Minimum 2 years of recent, independent PICU experience required within the last year (not including orientation time) Experience in a PICU unit with at least 10 beds required Level 1 trauma experience required At least one prior travel assignment preferred, though strong candidates without travel experience will be considered Experience required with ventilators, multiple monitors, CVP monitoring, and EKG Skills required include IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, ventilator management, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, central venous pressure monitoring, and external ventricular drain (EVD) care ICP monitoring experience preferred Additional Information Deliver high-acuity nursing care within a nationally recognized, Magnet-designated, Level 1 trauma pediatric hospital Facility has been named one of the Top 10 Best Children's Hospitals in the Nation by U.S. News & World Report and holds Beacon Award Excellence and Great Place to Work certifications Must work 2 of the following 3 holidays, including holiday eves: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, with no holiday time off approved Maximum RTO is 7 days, with a minimum of 3 shifts required during that week First-time travelers are welcome to apply, though candidates with prior travel experience are preferred Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are not accepted Former permanent staff must be separated from the facility for at least 1 year before becoming eligible to travel Clinicians who are DNR (Do Not Return) for Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) will not be considered due to the merger with Rady Children's Health Travelers who complete a full year at Rady or CHOC must wait 90 days before returning as a traveler American Traveler Job ID P-747338.
