Position Overview

The Director of Interior Design is responsible for leading the interior design department, guiding the creative direction of interior design projects from concept to completion. The role requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in interior design, a passion for innovation, and the ability to collaborate across all stages of architectural projects. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership skills, strong project management abilities, and the ability to build and maintain client relationships while delivering exceptional design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the interior design team, ensuring that all projects meet the highest standards of design excellence and client satisfaction.

• Oversee the programming and design process for a variety of projects, ensuring designs are cohesive, functional, and aligned with the client's vision.

• Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate interior design seamlessly with architectural elements and site conditions.

• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

• Maintain client relationships by providing exceptional service, presenting design concepts, and ensuring the successful execution of design visions.

• Participate in construction administration: Conduct site visits and attend meetings to oversee design implementation, troubleshoot design challenges, and ensure design integrity.

• Ensure team is staying up-to-date with the latest trends, materials, technologies, and sustainability practices in interior design to maintain the firm’s competitive edge.

• Manage and review the design documentation, including concept design, blocking plans, program documents, construction drawings, finish selections, finish boards, finish binders, and interior renderings.

• Ensure the interior design team’s output aligns with the firm's design standards and quality assurance processes.

• Participate in business development efforts, including client presentations, proposal preparation, and networking opportunities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in interior design from an accredited university.

• Certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).

• 10+ years of experience in commercial interior design, with a minimum of 5 years in education design.

• A portfolio demonstrating a broad range of successful interior design projects.

• Strong proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite) and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Comprehensive knowledge of interior design principles, materials, finishes, fixtures, lighting, etc.

• Knowledge of building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainability practices in interior design.

• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with an ability to manage and inspire teams.

• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Professional LEED certification is preferred.
