Description: Responsible for compiling health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness. Organizes medical reports for placement in files. Reviews charts to ensure all reports and signatures are present. Prepares charts for new admissions and fills out necessary forms. Prepares requests for specific reports or certificates. Compiles and types statistical reports such as daily and monthly census, admissions, and discharges. Files reports into health information records and records information in logs. Retrieves health information records from the filing system. Provides information from health information records while ensuring the appropriateness of requests. Coordinates with other departments regarding health information records procedures. Knowledge of health information technology and regulations governing medical record keeping is essential. Familiarity with confidentiality of patient information and medical terminology is required. Skills in using word processors and calculators are necessary. Ability to handle problems involving few variables within a familiar context is important. Must be able to write routine business letters and evaluate records per standard procedures. Proficiency in proofreading medical reports and recognizing errors is essential. Recognizes when medical records information is missing and gathers, collates, and classifies information effectively.
