Nuclear Medicine Technologist

Department/Unit: Nuclear Medicine; Work Shift: Day (United States). Salary Range: $84,783 – $131,414. Job Summary Under the direction of the Supervisor and Director of Imaging and Related Services, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs technical procedures and assists in clinical evaluation and care of patients, utilizing nuclear medicine imaging modalities such as SPECT/CT or PET/CT scanners. The technologist ensures radiation safety, quality control, and patient safety in accordance with NewYork State regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain and develop imaging competencies and contribute to a professional, progressive Imaging Department. Practice in compliance with hospital/department policy, NewYork State and accrediting agency standards. Assist physicians with procedures in the assigned area and provide a safe, positive patient experience. Support accreditation efforts and maintain proper accreditations. Cover on‑call duties and prepare dosages in the hot lab. Start IV lines and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients. Enter patient data accurately into computer systems. Operate nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment including SPECT/CT or PET/CT scanners. Perform radiation safety and quality control procedures, dispose of radioactive materials, and monitor work areas and patient rooms to ensure compliance with NY State regulations. Lead and mentor less experienced NMTs, acting as resource and preceptor. Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Associate's Degree from an approved AMA nuclear medicine school. 4–6years of related experience required. Ability to independently perform and support inexperienced NMTs, handle complex patients, and demonstrate command of clinical imaging acquisition and processing software. Positive leadership skills; acts as resource, mentor, and preceptor. Proficient in reading and interpreting safety rules, procedures, and protocol manuals, documenting required information, communicating effectively with patients, families, and staff, and engaging in collaborative dialogue. Mathematical competence: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, rates, ratios, percentages, decay calculations, dose volumes and activities. Professional conduct: honesty, punctuality, compliance with AMC policies, use of judgment, problem‑solving, conflict avoidance, and continuous improvement. Certifications: ARDMS or ARRT — Nuclear Medicine Tech upon hire; NMTCB — Nuclear Medicine Tech upon hire. Physical Demands Standing, walking, sitting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, speaking, hearing, repetitive motions, eye/hand/foot coordination, temperature changes, and other conditions continuously required.
