$80kRocketship Public Schools
At Rocketship Public Schools, we believe in the infinite possibility of human potential. We believe that every student deserves the right to dream, to discover, and to develop their unique potential and it is our responsibility and our privilege to unleash the potential inside every Rocketeer we serve. Our non‑profit network of public elementary charter schools propels student achievement, develops exceptional educators, and partners with parents who enable high‑quality public schools to thrive in their community. We are a collective of parents, teachers, leaders, and students working together to transform the future for underserved communities across our country. Position Summary Based in the Bay Area (San Jose/East Bay/Peninsula) and reporting to the Associate Director of Integrated Special Education, the BCBA will be a key contributor to the implementation and coaching of highly individualized Behavior Intervention Plans for the small percentage of students in special education who have not responded to earlier attempts at behavior supports. This role operates under educational impact and not solely clinical practices. The BCBA will serve multiple school sites in San Jose, Redwood City, Concord, or Antioch. The BCBA will partner closely with school psychologists, wellness counselors, special education case managers, school leaders, and program specialists to ensure collaboration and ongoing implementation and coaching of student supports and plans to ensure success. The BCBA will lead training to develop staff and ensure aligned understandings and implementation. The BCBA may also be involved in crisis‑level support and creation of safety plans for students with more significant safety concerns, as well as in moments of de‑escalation and at times IEP‑level support and collaboration (direct services). This position requires previous training and experience working with students with emotional and behavioral needs. It requires a commitment to serving students and a desire to think critically and creatively about how to support challenging behaviors in the general education classroom setting. The salary range for this position starts at $80,000. Essential Functions Conduct thorough and comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessments, including documenting findings and recommendations in a compliant report filed in the student’s special education file. FBA practices include review of records, parent and teacher interviews, direct student observations for data collection, and coordination with school staff for additional behavior data collection. Collaborate on creation of Behavior Intervention Plans with the IEP team. Design and propose informal behavior plans in collaboration with school personnel. Collaborate and partner on Functional Behavior Assessments. Provide ongoing coaching to teachers, ISE specialists, paraprofessionals, school staff, school leaders, and wellness counselors regarding implementation of behavior interventions and supports in all school settings. Provide ongoing coaching to ISE specialists, paraprofessionals, and 1:1 aides regarding implementation of behavior intervention services. Plan and conduct student progress meetings for students in general education with available data and information. Coordinate with school personnel to develop behavioral goals and objectives. Consult with school leaders to determine behavior needs on campus and prioritize work. Design and execute staff professional development opportunities related to behavior intervention strategies for a range of audiences. Support consistent implementation of evidence‑based behavior interventions in Rocketship schools, creating user‑friendly resources that support special education teams in implementation. Maintain a close working relationship with other members of the Network Support MTSS and ISE Teams (NeST—Rocketship’s centralized office) to ensure exchange of best practices, coordination of efforts, and general support for the Integrated Special Education department. Ensure the MTSS Team is viewed as a positive support to the organization’s mission that is fully aligned with Rocketship’s Core Characteristics (Innovation, Pursuit of Excellence, Authenticity, Community, and Tenacity), and not as bureaucratic obstacles. Qualifications BCBA (Board Certified Behavioral Analyst) certification, required. Bachelor’s degree and currently pursuing a Master’s degree, required. At least one year of experience conducting behavior assessments and creating behavior plans for students with significant behavior challenges in a school setting. Commitment to Rocketship’s special education inclusion model and overall mission to close the achievement gap. Familiarity with socio‑emotional learning competencies, trauma‑informed education practices, multi‑tiered systems of supports (MTSS), and restorative practices, a plus. Strong written and verbal skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team with a diverse population of clients. Thrives in a fast‑paced, dynamic work environment. Flexible and adaptable in an evolving work environment. Maintain records and manage cooperative relationships with students, parents, and school personnel, meeting schedules and compliance deadlines. Possession of a valid California driver’s license and willingness to provide own transportation for site visits; mileage reimbursed. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Social Services, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling. Experience working with elementary‑grade students and students with disabilities. Familiarity with special education, IEP team participation, and educationally related mental health services. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to perform the essential functions of this role. Noise level is moderate to high. Compensation The salary ranges from $80,000 to $100,000 per year in addition to excellent health and wellness benefits, a 403(b) retirement plan, a flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.
