Inventory Control Specialist

Job Summary: The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, supporting daily cycle count activity, resolving inventory discrepancies, and helping keep warehouse locations organized and reliable. This role serves as the primary point of contact for day‑to‑day inventory issues, including missing parts, location problems, count variances, discrepancy tickets, and inventory questions that require follow‑up beyond normal shipping and receiving activity. Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. The role may provide guidance to warehouse personnel on proper inventory procedures, location accuracy, cycle count activity, and discrepancy follow‑up as needed. Perform scheduled cycle counts and spot counts to verify physical inventory against system quantities and improve inventory accuracy. Investigate inventory discrepancies by reviewing item history, receiving records, transfers, shipments, returns, bin locations, and other available transaction records. Serve as the primary daily point of contact for inventory issues, missing parts, quantity variances, incorrect locations, and discrepancy tickets that require research or follow‑up. Research and resolve discrepancy tickets in a timely manner, documenting findings, corrections, and recurring causes so issues can be addressed at the source. Help organize warehouse inventory by maintaining accurate bin locations, identifying misplaced material, improving labeling, and supporting practical storage improvements for small and large parts. Verify part numbers, quantities, units of measure, and locations when inventory issues are identified through picking, receiving, shipping, purchasing, or customer order activity. Prepare and submit inventory adjustment information in accordance with company procedures, including proper documentation and approval where required. Assist with physical inventory preparation, recounts, audit support, and follow‑up activity needed to maintain reliable inventory records. Work with shipping, receiving, purchasing, sales, and warehouse leadership to identify recurring inventory problems and recommend practical corrective actions. Support shipping and receiving personnel with inventory‑related questions, including part identification, quantity checks, location verification, and issue resolution. Maintain clean, accurate, and usable inventory records in company systems, spreadsheets, count sheets, discrepancy logs, or other approved tools. Identify slow‑moving, obsolete, damaged, mislabeled, or improperly stored inventory and communicate findings for disposition or corrective action. Help reinforce inventory discipline by promoting proper part handling, labeling, scanning, transaction accuracy, and location control. Operate warehouse equipment, scanners, computers, and basic material handling tools as needed to complete counts, move product safely, and verify inventory. Upholds ISO 9001:2015 requirements as defined in Hyspeco’s quality procedures and processes. Required Skills/Abilities: Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy. Ability to count, verify, research, and reconcile inventory with patience and consistency. Practical problem‑solving ability, including tracing discrepancies through receipts, shipments, transfers, locations, and transaction history. Basic computer skills, including accurate data entry, inventory system use, email, and Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet tools. Ability to read part numbers, bin locations, pick tickets, packing slips, purchase orders, and inventory reports. Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain inventory issues clearly and follow up with the appropriate departments. Organizational skills and the ability to maintain clean, logical, and usable warehouse locations. Ability to work independently, prioritize daily inventory issues, and follow problems through to resolution. Ability to work cooperatively with warehouse, shipping, receiving, purchasing, sales, and operations personnel. Ability to safely lift, move, count, and inspect small and large parts in a warehouse environment. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Two or more years of warehouse, shipping, receiving, inventory control, parts, stockroom, or related experience. Experience performing cycle counts, physical inventory, stock checks, location audits, or inventory discrepancy research. Experience using an ERP system and/or a warehouse management system. Equivalent combinations of relevant experience, demonstrated reliability, strong attention to detail, and practical warehouse knowledge may be considered. Preferred Education and Experience: Prior experience in a parts warehouse, distribution, manufacturing, hydraulic, industrial supply, or service‑related environment. Experience with inventory adjustments, discrepancy tickets, root‑cause follow‑up, and warehouse location maintenance. Forklift, order picker, pallet jack, or other material handling equipment experience or certification. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the workday. Frequently use hands and fingers to operate tools, machinery, measuring equipment, and computers. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Travel: This position is not expected to require travel.
