We are looking for an experienced Senior/Staff Grant Accountant to join a mission-focused non-profit organization in Lawrenceville, NJ on a contract-to-permanent basis. This role blends hands-on accounting, grant financial oversight, and administrative support to help maintain accurate records, strengthen compliance, and support timely reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit accounting knowledge, a careful eye for detail, and the ability to communicate financial information clearly to colleagues across the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee day-to-day accounting activity by processing payables and receivables and ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on schedule.

• Prepare journal entries, reconcile balance sheet accounts, and support monthly close activities to keep financial data complete and reliable.

• Review revenue and expense activity for correct coding, supporting documentation, and alignment with restricted and unrestricted fund requirements.

• Monitor grant and contract spending, track related income, and help ensure all financial activity remains compliant with funder terms and approved budgets.

• Produce financial reports for leadership and board-level review, highlighting results, discrepancies, and items requiring follow-up.

• Support annual audit preparation by organizing schedules, reconciliations, and documentation needed for external auditors and fieldwork coordination.

• Prepare reimbursement requests and closeout financial reports for grants and contracts, maintaining files that are complete and audit-ready.

• Partner with program and administrative staff on budget development, receivable follow-up, payroll support, benefits administration, and maintenance of vendor compliance records.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline; comparable relevant experience may also be considered.
• At least 5 years of experience in accounting and financial reporting, preferably within a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.
• Demonstrated background in grant management, fund administration, and financial compliance for government grants or contract-funded programs.
• Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
• Ability to interpret financial and grant data accurately and explain findings clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail, sound problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
• Proven ability to handle sensitive financial, employee, and organizational information with discretion and professionalism.
