Physician Hematology/Oncology - Competitive Salary
University of Missouri School of Medicine
Job Description The University of Missouri School of Medicine and MU Health Care are nationally recognized leaders in clinical care, education, and research. The Ellis Fischel Cancer Center (EFCC) and the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology within the Department of Medicine are dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centered cancer care while advancing the field through cutting-edge research and training the next generation of oncologists. Ellis Fischel Cancer Center has been offering advanced cancer care since it opened its doors in 1940. Ellis Fischel Cancer Center at the University of Missouri is a 100,000-square-foot facility dedicated to delivering compassionate, comprehensive cancer care. Located within University Hospital, the center features advanced technology—including digital mammography and precision radiation therapy—private smart inpatient rooms, and calming clinic spaces overlooking the Brown Family Healing Garden. The Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office (CTO) serves as a cornerstone of our research mission, supporting over 180 active clinical trials across MU and more than 20 interventional studies within Ellis Fischel. Backed by leading research infrastructure such as the MU Research Reactor (MURR) and the Roy Blunt NextGen Precision Health Building, Ellis Fischel combines cutting-edge science with patient-centered care from diagnosis to survivorship. This unique leadership opportunity is supported by the Frances T. McAndrew Chair in Oncology Endowment, which provides resources for leadership in oncology clinical research, education, and patient care. Position Overview We are seeking a distinguished physician leader to serve as the Deputy Director of the Cancer Center and Associate Division Director of Hematology and Medical Oncology. The successful candidate will have a focus on solid tumors (examples: lung, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, breast). As Deputy Director of EFCC and Associate Director of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology, this individual will assist the EFCC Director/Division Director in all administrative operations in partnership with MU Health Care. A key focus of this position will be leading the Solid Tumor Clinical Program for MU Health Care, including supervision of physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) who treat patients with solid tumors and close collaboration with MU Health Care partners across relevant service lines. As the Deputy Director, the physician will oversee clinical trials in EFCC. Key Administrative Responsibilities: With the Director, set strategic direction for clinical care, research, and education. Manage and supervise the EFCC administrative team. Represent EFCC and the Division in institutional meetings and serve as Acting EFCC Director and Acting Division Director when needed. Lead recruitment for solid tumor oncologists. Work closely with oncologists in the Goldschmidt Cancer Center at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, which is a part of MUHC. Work to ensure oncology services at Goldschmidt are incorporated into the overall MUHC cancer program. Lead quality improvement initiatives, patient safety oversight, and financial planning to ensure sustainability and growth. Develop advanced education plans in partnership with the Director. Mentor faculty and trainees, oversee advanced practice practitioners, and support professional development. Expand cancer care outreach across Missouri, ensuring access to high-quality services statewide. Key Clinical Research Responsibilities: As the Deputy Director, identify opportunities for interdisciplinary growth across the cancer center, NextGen, campus, and support the overall mission of cancer-related education, research and clinical care. Working closely with the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Director and institutional leadership, identify opportunities to expand clinical trials to the Goldschmidt Cancer Center and other potential regional partners. Provide physician leadership with respect to trial identification, feasibility, scientific merit and performance. Provide medical oversight of all oncology clinical trials, ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, and scientific rigor. Collaborate with investigators and staff on study design, protocol development, and trial execution. Mentor and support faculty, research staff, and trainees engaged in oncology research. Provide physician leadership to the Cancer Clinical Trials Office (CTO). Provide guidance to faculty in the cancer center that are interested in or are engaged in conducting clinical trials. Provide physician leadership for the direction and support of the Oncore CTMS program and other databases related to clinical research. Grow clinical trial portfolio and enrollment across all cancer areas by 20% annually. Address staff or faculty related performance issues related to cancer center clinical trials performance in the cancer center and CTO in collaboration with Stacee Baker, Sr. Director of Clinical Research Operations. Advance scholarly productivity and contribute to the national reputation of the University of Missouri.aa415a4b-8b21-40fc-a65c-70d2b25ca29a
