Job Title:Lecturer - Comparative StudiesDepartment:Arts and Sciences | Comparative Studies Position Overview The Department of Comparative Studies within the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a temporary, full-time Lecturer. This position will take place from August 15, 2026 through December 31, 2026. Performance Objectives 75% FTE Lecturer to teach 3 classes Fall 2026 semester Education and Experience Requirements Required: A candidate will have completed, at minimum, all requirements for the degree of M.A. (or the equivalent) in discipline or a closely related field. The College With more than 80 majors and 100 minors, the College of Arts and Sciences is the academic heart of the university. The Arts and Sciences provides extraordinary opportunities to collaborate across disciplines, blending creativity and analysis to truly be at the forefront of thought. The breadth and depth of knowledge in the college gives students and researchers the critical thinking and adaptability essential for a lifetime of success. Department Information The Department of Comparative Studies is home to an internationally renowned interdepartmental graduate program in folklore that provides an opportunity for students in a wide range of fields to explore vernacular communicative resources and expression in art, religion, and politics (the latter a particular strength of our folklore faculty). Folklore's ethnographic grounding allows students interested in globalization, cultural change, and democratization to understand these processes from the perspective of local actors. Tracing the emergence of vernacular cultural forms, their movements through informal channels, and their adaptations across time and space, folklore provides an important complement to the study of formal institutions. At the undergraduate level, the comparative studies department offers a folklore minor, and folklore coursework is integrated into the general education program at the university.
