Maintenance Technician
Greenville University is seeking a Maintenance Technician. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, repair and construction of Greenville University buildings and equipment using carpentry, electrical, mechanical, piping, and masonry processes as well as a variety of campus maintenance duties across all trades, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC system maintenance, mechanical repairs, minor vehicle repairs, and general facility upkeep.
Job Duties
- Completes preventive maintenance and responds to assigned work orders in a timely and safe manner.
- Performs lighting maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and repair, including work performed at heights and overhead.
- Regularly performs overhead work using ladders, lifts, and similar equipment in accordance with safety standards.
- Performs event setups, including deploying pop-up tents and installing staked tents (site layout, anchoring, staking), arranging tables, chairs, stages, and assisting with other equipment moves as needed.
- Assists groundskeeping, including general outdoor maintenance and seasonal tasks such as snow removal, as operational needs require.
- Uses tools, equipment, vehicles, and personal protective equipment safely and maintains a clean workspace.
- Works collaboratively with custodial and grounds staff to support daily operations and special projects.
- Helps maintain a safe, clean, and functional campus environment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned in support of Facilities Operations.
Qualifications
Must be able to perform each essential duty listed below satisfactorily. These requirements are representative of the minimum knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma required.
- Trade or technical school, or apprenticeship in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, or HVAC systems preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of related maintenance experience preferably in a college environment with demonstrated and verifiable skills in the area of physical plant operations, including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, building structure and envelope maintenance.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois state vehicle operator license.

- Manual dexterity to walk, climb, stand, bend, twist, kneel, stoop, crouch, and crawl to work on various parts of building structures and systems necessary to perform job duties.
- Lift objects up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds
- Ability to properly handle powered and non-powered tools, equipment and machinery
- Vision to read work requests, blueprints and diagrams, manuals and regulations.

- Work is performed indoors and outdoors
- Frequent travel is required throughout the college complex and local community
- Usually work a standard 40-hour week. May be required to work overtime during evenings, weekends, and holidays. May be on-call for emergencies.
- Must wear protective attire, such as work gloves, hard hats, leather aprons, back support, and sturdy boots to protect from exposure to hazardous conditions, situations, and equipment.
