Staff Software Engineer - Driving System

Salary: $218,800 - 335,300 per year Requirements:

• We require a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• We need 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building production systems in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other demanding real-time control environments.
• We require strong fluency in modern C++ (C++14/17 or newer) within large, multi-developer codebases.
• We need experience using Python for engineering tools, data analysis, and machine learning experimentation.
• We prefer demonstrated leadership in the design and delivery of perception, tracking, or prediction systems in real-time settings.
• We value experience with multi-sensor fusion across camera, radar, and/or lidar.
• We value familiarity with classical computer vision and geometric methods such as feature extraction, multi-view geometry, stereo, SLAM, or visual odometry.
• We prefer expertise in multi-object tracking, including Kalman, extended Kalman, or unscented filters, track-to-track fusion, and track lifecycle management.
• We prefer experience with motion prediction for road users, including kinematic models, maneuver-based approaches, or learned forecasting models.
• We need a track record of delivering reliable, high-quality robotics or autonomous driving software into production.
• We require experience with testing strategies such as simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, scenario-based testing, and regression suites.
• We require the ability to build robust metrics, dashboards, and performance monitoring for perception and prediction systems.
• We need proven performance tuning skills under tight latency and compute constraints.
• We require excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to bring clarity to ambiguous technical problems.
• We need the ability to influence engineers and leaders across machine learning, systems, platform, hardware, and safety disciplines.

• Bonus qualifications include production experience with camera, radar, and lidar perception and fusion for ADAS or autonomous driving.

• We will provide technical leadership for the Secondary Driving System across multiple software components.
• We will set the direction for algorithms, architecture, and system interfaces across features and releases.
• We will own the end-to-end technical strategy for key SDS behaviors, spanning perception, prediction, planning, controls, and system-level integration.
• We will contribute hands-on engineering work by designing and implementing critical components in modern C++.
• We will guide senior and mid-level engineers to deliver solutions at scale.
• We will collaborate closely with teams across perception, tracking, prediction, state estimation, localization, mapping, planning, controls, systems engineering, and safety.
• We will define the technical vision and architecture for SDS software with a focus on correctness, resilience, and predictable runtime behavior.
• We will design scalable, modular multi-sensor perception pipelines for camera, radar, and lidar.
• We will establish and refine interfaces between perception, prediction, and upstream or downstream autonomy components.
• We will lead the design and delivery of multi-object tracking systems that remain stable under real-world noise and edge cases.
• We will drive development and integration of short-horizon motion prediction for vehicles, vulnerable road users, and other actors.
• We will evaluate trade-offs between classical computer vision and ML-based approaches and choose the best solution for production use.
• We will write and optimize modern C++ software with attention to memory use, concurrency, and real-time execution.
• We will use Python for tooling, data analysis, and ML experimentation as needed.
• We will uphold strong software engineering practices, including clean APIs, rigorous code review, automated testing, continuous integration, and strong logging and observability.
• We will profile and tune SDS components to meet strict performance, determinism, and resource constraints.
• We will use offline and online evaluation frameworks and metrics to guide iteration and detect regressions.
• We will partner with state estimation, localization, mapping, and autonomy management teams to ensure safe takeover and minimal risk maneuver behavior.
• We will work with Safety and Systems Engineering to align designs with functional safety, redundancy, and fail-operational requirements.
• We will represent SDS perception and prediction in cross-functional technical forums.
• We will mentor engineers from onboarding through senior and staff-level growth.
• We will lead design reviews, incident post-mortems, and cross-team technical deep dives.
• We will help foster a pragmatic, data-driven engineering culture centered on ownership, safety, reliability, and customer experience.
