Job Summary:
The Certified OB Tech in Surgical Services provides specialized technical support during obstetric surgical procedures, including cesarean sections, tubal ligations, and vaginal deliveries. This role requires expertise in operating room protocols, patient safety, and the use of specialized surgical equipment. The Certified OB Tech collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure efficient and safe patient care in the labor and delivery unit, focusing on patients at 15 weeks gestational age or greater.
Responsibilities:
The Certified OB Tech in Surgical Services provides specialized technical support during obstetric surgical procedures, including cesarean sections, tubal ligations, and vaginal deliveries. This role requires expertise in operating room protocols, patient safety, and the use of specialized surgical equipment. The Certified OB Tech collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure efficient and safe patient care in the labor and delivery unit, focusing on patients at 15 weeks gestational age or greater.
Responsibilities:
- Assist during obstetric surgical procedures such as cesarean sections (singleton and twins), tubal ligation, hysterectomy, cystoscopy, D&C, vaginal laceration repair, and hemorrhage management.
- Attend vaginal deliveries to provide technical support.
- Maintain unit safety and cleanliness, ensuring a sterile environment.
- Operate and manage special surgical equipment including ESU/cautery with smoke evacuation system, Neptune surgical waste management system, and suction D&C machine.
- Ensure readiness and maintenance of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Collaborate with surgical and nursing staff to optimize patient care and workflow.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a CST, with at least 3 years specifically in obstetrics.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Demonstrated proficiency with obstetric surgical procedures and related equipment.
- Experience working in labor and delivery units or obstetric surgical settings.
- Familiarity with patient care protocols for pregnancy of 15 weeks gestational age or greater.
- Staffing ratio of 1:1 or 1:1-1 during procedures to ensure patient safety.
- Previous permanent employees of any Providence affiliated facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for travel positions.
- Work involves exposure to surgical smoke and requires use of smoke evacuation systems.
- Work schedule aligned with surgical and labor and delivery unit needs; shifts may vary based on surgical case load.
- On-call or flexible scheduling may be required to support emergent obstetric procedures.
