ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR

ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE INSPECTOR 4292 BB Salary: $89,241 – $123,588 annually. Location: CITY OF LOS ANGELES, CA. Job Type: FULL-TIME. Responsibilities Monitors and investigates environmental compliance issues, including illicit discharges and connections. Performs field tests on harmful liquids, gases, and solids in public right-of-way, storm drain system, waterways, and receiving waters. Identifies hazardous materials and substances. Inspects construction sites, industrial and commercial facilities for conformance with solid resources, storm water, and pretreatment regulations and contract terms. Prepares investigative reports for criminal cases and provides court testimony. Oversees remediation of chemical spills and abandoned chemicals. Enforces applicable Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC), State and Federal regulations governing management and disposal of solid resources, industrial wastes, and discharges to wastewater systems. Inspects biosolids beneficial use sites and solid waste facilities, collection operations, and hauling companies to ensure compliance with contract and regulatory requirements. Handles inspection, investigation, and safety of the City’s controlled oil drilling sites. May serve warrants, issue citations, and make arrests. May perform public officer duties and other related work. Qualifications Minimum of two years full-time paid experience in a Laboratory Technician or related level in physical or chemical testing of wastewater, solids, recyclables, or storm water treatment, or experience in enforcing environmental health laws and regulations. Alternatively, completion of 24 semester or 36 quarter units in biology, chemistry, environmental science, biochemistry, solid waste management technology, water supply technology, storm water or wastewater treatment technology, or engineering, accredited by a recognized agency. Valid Class C driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Driving record with fewer than three moving violations or at-fault accidents within the last 36 months and no major violations such as DUI. Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed. Physical fitness to perform monitoring and fieldwork, including the use of a personal vehicle if required.
