Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead (Chemistry)

Job Description Nemours is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead (Chemistry) to join our laboratory team in Wilmington, Delaware. $10,000 Sign on Bonus offered (external applicants only) The primary function of the lead medical laboratory scientist is the performance of a variety of analytical procedures of moderate to high complexity, using manual and automated methods, and through a variety of clinical laboratory methodologies. The lead must perform and provide oversight of all required calibration, quality control, statistical calculations, and other process control and mathematical functions. The associate must also understand and educate on concepts such as linearity and standard deviation as they apply to analytical testing in a clinical laboratory. Routinely performs a range of clinical analysis in the molecular department by properly utilizing a variety of methodologies and instrumentation according to laboratory policies and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements. Assists in the development and/or takes the lead in the validation of various complex tests for implementation in all sections of the laboratory. Helps with administrative duties including writing and maintaining procedures, assigning and completing proficiency testing, and maintaining supply inventory as needed. Orders, accession, monitors status, and reports results of tests performed on patient specimens, monitoring critical clinical issues such as patient identifiers, specimen quality, and order appropriateness. Reads and understands written material such as specimen requisitions, worksheets, patient identification, and specimen requirements, whether performing this task manually or using an information system. Checks and verifies information such as patient identification, lot numbers, expiration dates, and provides rapid turnaround time by monitoring pending logs. Operates, calibrates, troubleshoots, and performs maintenance on laboratory equipment following established procedures and as assigned by supervisor, interacting with technical representatives for instrument maintenance, both preventive and repair. Performs start-up and shutdown of complex analytical equipment and identifies need for additional quality control, maintenance, or specimens before releasing test results. When trained and assigned to specimen collection, processing, and handling, assists with specimen collection from patients or others in special procedures (e.g., bone marrow aspirate collections) and follows infection control procedures in isolation rooms. Transports and handles specimens as assigned, following appropriate procedures. Manages supply and inventory issues, identifies technical parameters such as lot numbers and storage requirements, and follows laboratory section inventory procedures. Retrieves supplies and equipment from storage areas as needed and places orders for reagents and supplies as directed. Answers telephone as assigned, demonstrating good customer service by answering calls promptly, referring appropriately, and calling critical results. Job Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory program or a related science program. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience. Nationally/Internationally recognized certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalent (ASCP, AAB, or AMT). #J-18808-Ljbffr
