Principal Research Scientist I, siRNA Platform Automation

AbbVie's Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine department seeks a Principal Research Scientist to establish and lead a high-throughput siRNA screening platform. The role combines platform development, team management, and cross-functional collaboration to advance genetic medicine discovery across multiple disease areas.
Responsibilities
- Establish and implement high-throughput siRNA screening platform using automated liquid-handling systems
- Serve as subject matter expert in siRNA screening design, execution, and data interpretation
- Lead research initiatives on siRNA optimization including sequence design and chemical modifications
- Manage and mentor a team of 2-3 scientists with technical guidance and day-to-day leadership
- Generate hypotheses, improve workflows, evaluate emerging siRNA technologies, and collaborate across teams
Requirements
- BS, MS, or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or related field
- 6+ years (PhD), 12+ years (MS), or 14+ years (BS) of biotech or pharma experience
- Proven expertise in siRNA design, in vitro screening, and potency assays
- Hands-on experience with automated high-throughput platforms such as Hamilton or Tecan
- Proficiency with qRT-PCR, ELISA, and flow cytometry assays
- Strong cell culture skills and experience maintaining diverse cell lines
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
