HVAC & Maintenance Specialist

Join the Wyoming Girls' School (WGS) team as an HVAC & Maintenance Specialist! In this role, you will perform skilled technical work in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing campus heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Alongside core HVAC responsibilities, you will assist with general facility maintenanceincluding routine and emergency repairs across plumbing, mechanical, and access control systems, as well as minor electrical work. Seasonal duties include groundskeeping and snow removal to support campus safety and operations. We are seeking a versatile and dependable technician with strong technical knowledge who is ready to participate in a 24/7 rotating on-call schedule for campus emergencies.

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs HVAC/R systems, including boilers, air handlers, exhaust fans, and refrigeration units.
  • Performs routine troubleshooting, maintenance, and facility repairs to ensure campus safety and operational efficiency.
  • Uses critical thinking and practical problem-solving to diagnose issues and communicate recommendations clearly
  • Collaborates with the Maintenance Manager to identify effective repair strategies and cost-conscious solutions.
  • Assists in maintaining mechanical systems, fleet vehicles, backup generators, and maintenance equipment.
  • Supports seasonal groundskeeping, landscaping, and winter snow removal operations.
  • Monitors campus water, sewer, and fire protection systems to ensure proper function and safety compliance.

Preference may be given to qualified applicants with:

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in the HVAC/R field as a laborer or technician
  • Active HVAC/R Certificate and EPA Certification
  • Associate's degree in a relevant field

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Knowledge in safe operation of various maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of various tools required to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge in digital multimeter operation, circuit diagnostics, electrical troubleshooting and voltage testing.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations in relation to life-safety and maintenance practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Associate's Degree

Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Assistant OR 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Skilled Trades) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Skilled Trades Assistant

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

Physical Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must complete the mandatory State of Wyoming and Wyoming Girls' School Training.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull 50+ pounds.
  • Must be able to access the attic and crawl spaces.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive and labor-intensive duties, including but not limited to bending, kneeling, standing, or shoveling snow for extended periods of time.

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
